Have been waiting for these for a while now but I'll hold out longer for the 2TB model and get 2 while im at it. Would have been interesting to test 2 of them on your X570, would there be a bottleneck there I wonder between the CPU driven m.2 port and the X570 driven m.2 port?
Still you should be touching 10GB/s happy days.

Both thechnology and need existed. They just waited for AMD and Intel to make transition to Gen 4.

We are for x4 lanes. We've got almost 32GB/s bandwidth on gen 4. It would be impossible to max out gen 4 on an x4 drive.

In theory we could have gotten these speeds with gen 3 and 8 lanes dedicated to it.

Yes. It has an onboard controller and it is mighty. NAND drives use similar approach. The more chips you have faster the drive. That is why bigger drives perform better than smaller ones. This is the same idea but on steroids.
