Why would Samsung need or want BlackBerry though?

I'm surprised BlackBerry are still around though, didn't they recently release a new phone as a last effort to try and get the die hard fans back? Its probably the one pictured above.

Only thing i can think of is the security side of blackberry, most companies wont use android as business phones due to vulnerabilities, my company personally use Nokia, i have a shitty phone with actual hard ware buttons, but does email and stuff.

The Senior management team use Blackberry's, purely because there hasn't been a security breech with BES service as far as im aware.

Something like this could be incorporated into Android, then Samsung are onto a winner, so maybe there is some kind of Patent they want?

I read that BlackBerry has over 4400 patents, which would be really nice for their war against Apple. I guess that could mean a huge advantage!

I very much doubt samsung would buy them. They aren't lenovo and don't buy existing brands to get a share in the western market (see Motorola).

Who knows. Apple have apparently patented a camera like a GoPro plus they look like they're ditching Intel for Samsung chips so could be a big year ahead for them.

I don't think they'll ditch Intel for samsung anytime soon. Samsung already do their mobile cpus and unless Apple actually design their own CPUs. Its technically possible for apple to design their own desktop chip but it'll be no faster than an i3.

They're more likely to move to AMD then get rid of intel imo.

Samsung wouldn't be able to use the security patents. It would probably conflict with Google. If google bought them and incorporated the patents into Andriod it would be very good. Though since Andriod is very popular.. adding in the security just means hackers will get into it to see how it works. Then Blackberry isn't that relevant..

What if Samsung used said patents in let's say a bespoke version of Android, would Google allow that?
