Nowadays, every time someone asks “What cpu cooler should i get?” Everyone says they should get the Noctua NH-D14. Or shouldn’t they ? Thermaltake has 2 awesome coolers, well actually only 1 but if you but a second fan on the archon it will beat the silver arrow which in some cases beats Noctua’s flagship.
Be Quiet! has been making great psu’s and fans for a while now and recently they took up the challenge in the cpu cooler branche.
Their first coolers are available now and you can get a mid-range Dark Rock Advanced for €60 or the high-end Dark Rock Pro for €85.
I’ll be reviewing the top of the line model, hope you guys enjoy.
I got the cooler 1 day after I ordered it from alternate.be , it came well packaged in a second box filled with airbags.
Here’s a quick look at the box:
A lot of numbers on the box but it's made in Germany so it's normal
When you open the box, you get a brown box with some anti-vibration screws, a real think steel backplate with rubber on the motherboard side to further lower the noise some brackets and of course thermal paste. I’m very into aesthetics so I was pleased to see even the thermal paste was in the same color as the cooler itself.
Now with the brown box removed you get your first look as the cooler itself, and boy is it big:
Some pictures on the table:
And of course 2 pictures of the installed cooler:
Enough pictures of the cooler now, most people will lock this beautiful black diamond up in their case anyways (if it fits because it’s massive).
Rig specs:
CPU Make: AMD
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 B45 used to be an x3 445
Motherboard: AS Rock 890GX Extreme 3
Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX460 OC2 1GB
Memory: GeIL DIMM 4 GB DDR3-1333
Cooling: Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro C1
Power Supply: OCZ 500W
Operating System: Windows 7 HP
First up I got a screenshot of my cpu with a stock cooler running at 3.5gHz (the highest I could go):
And now with the dark rock:
Vantage said my cpu was worth 37770 P points at this clock rate of course it hardly went above room temperature:
I did ran the cooler at full speed trough all the tests because it’s so quiet, you don’t hear the difference. All I could hear where my case fans and during graphic tests my gpu.
Anyways, I went to 3.7gHz now because I have a crappy old cpu which was actually €5 cheaper than my cooler
Some screenies:
Vantage:
I’m pretty happy with this cooler, I never had a Noctua or a Termaltake but I’m pretty confident this is the new “best-in-class” I don’t know if it cools the best but it’s so quiet, I can’t describe it with words so to give you an idea of how quiet it is, I would suggest you turn everything in your room off, and stop thinking for about 10 minutes, after that you will get a pretty decent idea on this.
Another massive plus and for me the most important one is looks. Pretty straight forward, both the NH-D14 and the Silver Arrow let you down in this department while the black diamond is actually fun to look at.
I would recommend it to everyone over everything because I’m so in love with this thing.
I will update this thread with more screenshots when I get even higher clock speeds.
