Restricting maxwell core18

by kyleb » Thu Jan 01, 2015 3:04 pm
Given some known driver issues with recent NVIDIA maxwell chips and Core18 (https://www.reddit.com/r/foldingathome/ ... l_support/), we are temporarily restricting our core18 projects (e.g. 1047*) to use pre-maxwell GPUs. I'll be making the changes Friday morning. Hopefully this restriction will be a temporary fix, with full maxwell support in the future.

For the last several days I've been getting a steady flow of 1047* WU's on a GTX 970, all look to have completed and had no issues. PPD is about the same as 9201 on this card, about 275K or so. Also throw in a few 9117 WUs at around 300K PPD.

Supposedly Nvidia drivers 347.** drivers have a CUDA version 7 that fixes the Core 18 issues. Looks to be working OK ATM :)

It hasn't been consistent. If I walk by my PC and hear coil whine it's a core 18 and low PPD. If I don't hear coil whine it's a core 17. Folding a core 17 right now WU 9411 estimating 311k PPD.

Edit: Make that 350k PPD. Just turned the client back on after raiding.

Edit 2: I meant core 15, not 18. Posted while drunk =P

Are you running the latest or later drivers. I'm on 347.88 and Core 18 PPD is fine as well as temps...

I'm not on the latest, but pretty sure the release before. I'd have to check to be sure. I'll be putting the card in my new rig this weekend so everything will be on the latest then.
