Resident Evil 2 Remake PC Performance Review

I really enjoyed this article. Keep up the good work.

Thanks man. Your kind words are appreciated.

Tom and I are very excited about the future of our gaming content moving into 2019. Hopefully we can update this with Nvidia's RTX GPUs after a little while.

An oddity within the PC version of Resident Evil 4 is the game's use of low refresh rate animations
Page 6 :p I thought we were looking at RE 2 Remake :o

Is there even a difference in graphics quality between DX11 and DX12?

I just now noticed that you have to complete a game to be able to judge which scenes represent the vast majority of gameplay. So thanks for your effort and work!!

Would've loved to see a screenshot with Vol. Lighting turned off completely, for comparison, but that's also nitpicky, I guess.

Keep performance reviews as awesome as this one!

Typo fixed, thanks for the spot.

As far as DX12 goes, the graphical quality appears to be identical. It's a strange one.

That's a good point, but my thinking at the time was that I wanted to recommend medium as it maintained the intended look of the game without much of a noticeable graphical sacrifice.

Thanks man. Your comments are appreciated.

Got about 5 hours into this game and I really do like the graphics and it seems to run pretty well. The ammo rationing killed it for me, it just sucked the fun right out of it. You spend pretty much the whole game nearly out of ammo and running away from everything. That's just frustrating. I've got a few hours into it and while it looked like it was going to be a great game, I doubt I'll even finish it now.

It's a shame because I loved the original versions 25+ years ago.

The original had ammo rationing too?
That is what made it exciting, you couldnt just blast your way through. Sometimes you either had to have pinpoint precision or literally had to endure being chased and run for the next room to conserve ammo.

I don't understand how people struggle with ammo. Are you shooting everything? If so that's why.

A lot of the enemies can be avoided.

I currently have 80+ handgun rounds and 20 odd shotgun shells (Leon).

It's survival horror after all, not a shoot 'em up.

Exactly this. Its not hack n slash, spray n pray.

Yeah I know it's survival horror. Dead Space was too but still had enough ammo that you didn't have to run away from everything you see.

Im not saying they should make RE like Doom, but at least give me a chance so I'm not having to run round and round bookcases or tables dodging zombies while searching a room.

Or make it like Deus Ex where you kind of have the choice of either. You can evade nearly every bad guy in the game or kill almost all of them or do a bit of both.

How are you killing zombies? If you're shooting them in the head stop. Knee cap them, blow their leg off and then leave them crawling. They're so slow they won't bother you and it's take less rounds to take a leg off.

I don't know. But I think adding a lot more ammo to the game or making the zombies easier to kill would ruin the atmosphere.

The way the game is at the moment forces players to take care when doing anything, leaving guns as more of a last resort than as a tool that gets you from A to B.

If anything, I wish that the knives lasted longer or just didn't break after a while, though I will admit that that would make the game too easy.

Agreed. I'm playing on Standard difficulty and i'm finding the balance decent.

Condemned was a good survival horror of its time.

ripping off conduits from the wall when you ran out of ammo.

Condemned.. Was that the Sega one where you sprayed luminol etc?

Ed, yup it was. Great game, but no pad support on PC sadly.
