Repairs possible?

I wasn't quite sure if this was the correct area for this, but since it's a graphics card..?

Does anyone repair components such as this. Not because it's a great card, but just to see if a person can get it to work again?
You can see bulged caps, and in the upper right hand corner, just to the right of a cap is a burned up square item.
Could parts be pirated from another old graphics card or mobo? And what type of component is the burned square in the upper right?

Any hope for this? Just for grins to keep me outta' trouble... Which sometimes isn't easy...:lol:

Wow, that card is died in my eyes. I dont think you can save that anymore, but maybe some one on the forum knows more then me on this.

The cost to rapair this card, if it is even possible, would be much more then that card is worth.

I've replaced caps on motherboards before, that's easy enough. Not sure about the other part, maybe a voltage regulator. It dead already so no harm in trying to swap parts. Some electronics stores will carry them, but my local Radio Shack didn't have what I needed so I had to source the caps online.

the voltage reg is dead meat and has possibly done a crap shoot on the rest of the board, hence the bulged caps.

imo (i've done repairs to pcb's on vending machines down to component level)
this board would most likely be classified as B.E.R (beyond economical repair) and simply chucked in a bin

Thanks for all the good replies. I hate to get rid of anything that could possibly be salvaged, but in this case...

glad to have helped in some way.
if it was just the caps, it may have been worthwhile trying to salvage it but the damage caused (and potentially caused further down the line) by the v-reg could mean virtually every component has been at least scarred by it going atomic lol

Atomic is a good description.. :lol:

It's my first component fairure that created smoke and that electrical burning smell. It lasted 6 years, so I guess I got my money's worth.
