Reommend me a £500 laptop

My father in-law wants to buy a laptop. He aint a gamer and wants something which will run bog standard office type applications without a glitch. What would you remcommend? He has a budget of £500.

Does he really need to spend that much?

Can you help me by posting up your thoughts/advice so I can inform him .

I'd get a Dell with an AMD X2 and 2gb RAM

I can`t promote an Acer with those stats for =<£500, so if u can source a Dell that does - go for it imo.
