Recovering lost data on a hard drive

Hey people,

Situation is this, uber important file on a server has been locked out/corrupted. Managed to recover approx half of the data usning various methods/companies/software.

We need 100% recovery, or much more than 50%.

If the HDD was taken out of the server, is it possible to find an image on the disk of a time where the file was not corrupt? This could be done by a 3rd party specialist.

The data is likely to have been written over by now...

Money is not an issue.

I just need to know if this idea is a viable option. Every other option has been exhausted.

The only other option I have is to hire monkeys to re-enter 4 years worth of data, which would be slow and costly!

Thanks

If the heads crashed there is a really good way to recover the data and it works like 99% of the time.

Take ur HD and stick it in the freezer overnight, get it as cold as possible. Take it directly out and plug it back in, it should work like normal for roughly an hour give or take 30 mins. Get all ur data off ASAP and

hate to tell you thats an old wifes tale and will do more damage than good!

We always use a program called "recover my files" give us a pm if you want anymore info about it. When i've used it, it's recovered from several formats ago.

I spent 6 months working for a data recovery company, no freezers there! :p

sherlock... This is the poor mans method, I wouldn't expect a professional data recovery firm to use such an archaic method.

alright, calm down luv!!

Nice one deathwish I will look into that firm.

Frags and Nathan - I think you missed what I was saying - the hard drive is 100% ok, it is a file that has become corrupt.

I want to know if there is a way to 'rewind' time on the hard drive to a time where the file was not corrupt. Bare in mind that the data will probably have been overwritten a few times by now...

Can this be done?

Cheers

they can recover filed from platters burnt to a crisp i think they should be able to get your file back eaven if the disk has been 0ed a few times

If all else fails I know this bloke in New guinea who says the monkeys he has have been rated by Mavis Beacon as level 7! :D and they are going dirt cheap atm.

ROFLMAO that's a classic chudley :D

On a more serious note...Mr Smith, Seagate have a data recovery service too

Yeh I really would not use seagate themselves! I would go with another firm!

I had a problem with one of my chips blowing apart and seagate told me they could not recover the files and they would send me a replacement drive. problem was it was a 300gb drive and they wanted to send me a 280gb drive.

I just came back to china got some dude too solder on a replacement chip and recovered 100% of my drive with about 20 differnt programs.

Mate they recovered years of data off of HDDs recovered from the world trade centre. If you've got the cash I would be inclined to just go straight for the professional recovery option. I've used apps to recover files that have been written over and 0'd a few times but nothing particularly large and they have all been hit and miss in what they manage to recover
