Recovering From Heart Attack!

So i got home and decided to attempt a small addon to my first case mod (toggle switch for my 120mm fan - i like my peace and quiet)

ithought that i would incorporate my other 2 case fans into the circuit so i could toggle between good performance but loud and bad performance but quiet. So i cut the wires and joined some (messy job with electrical tape) and decided to check if it was working.

so i grabed the 2 bare wires and held them against the fan socket on my mobo. All was well :) the fans started spinning and i was ready to attach them to the switch. but my hand slipped, the wires touched, sparks flew and the comp turned off. (yes it was on lmao!!!!)

i smelt burning and saw smoke. i feared the worst. went to turn the comp on again and nothing. so i unplugged the power cable and turned it on again and it beeped then went off.

at least was an improvement. so i cleared CMOS, unplugged and replugged power cable again and turned on. it actually worked!! siting here typing for an hour with no probs!!

it is safe to say that io am recovering from a heart attack.... :anisx: :rotfl:

You lucky bastard.

I have shorted out something in my PC before, and i performed exactly the same procedure as you, and it worked again :)

I think when PSU's cut out, they have a timeout before they will work again.

I bet you shit yourself tho...lol

Try tripping the PSU by earthing it through you via an antistatic wristband. It hurts like hell... but I could still use a mouse, fortunately. I don't even know how it happened.

not as bad as slammin yer fingers in a locker LOL. i did that yesterday, i screamed in teh middle of school, AH MOTHER F*CK lmfao!

PCNERD = SMALLER SIG, NOW! btw i like the intel and nvidia and creative logos. resize it to 200x400. (H)(W)

yeah, bit too big of a sig...

but try shorting out wires on a ANtec true 550w.....bah, i think it perminently damaged the psu even though the comp still worked. now whenever i decide to use it the 12v rail is at 11.4v

im working on it now, didnt think it was sooo big :wiggle:

Haha..i shorted something on a computer once (LED connections and what not on the board) and it started smoking..i just sort of sat their and watched it smoke for about 10 seconds while the computer booted, then it stopped smoking and I just used the pc as normal...haha. When I looked at it, the wires had heated up and melted all the plastic around them.

Dunno why I didnt flick it off at the wall.. :o

I was also working inside a monitor (Why? Dunno..) and i got aphone call...45minutes later I came back to it, forgot i'd left it plugged in and turned on, touched one of the coils inside by accident and tried to pull away, tripped up and went flying over my room lol..if it wernt for the sensitive power trips in this house i'd have been fucked apparently.

Happy days.

edit: i know this is an old thread, i just enjoy hearing stupid pc related stories :)

Hah, I have a story!!

I was working on my Celeron, because I had recently damaged my cpu(AMD XP 3000+) and mobo(Winbond) with condensation(Walking to nicks house in the winter >.<). I was working on the mobo trying to plug the HDD from my other computer in w/o taking it out of the case wich took like 30 mins hah so I turn it on and I must of took out a bad wire somwhere but I started seeing smoke come out of the case (I smelled it as well) Lets say it was very unplesent hah, this is one story without a happy ending >.< well anyways I ripped the powercord out of the PSU and started flipping out because it was the only computer I had left. So I waited 10 mins in panic plugged it back in and NOTHING!! I recently tried taking the cpu off the fan and I found out it melted! so I started swinging the case around from the cpu fan and finally it came off , it wasnt pretty I'll tell you I will go take some pics and post them thnx for reading through my humiliating story! Both those PC's were HP's >.<

Here's my tale. I had a Soyo KT600 Dragon Plus v1.0 Motherboard. (TOTAL Piece of Shit!!!!, NEVER will buy SOYO again.)

It was a nice lookin board, but anyway. I read on a site, that you could do the pencil trick, but with the window defroster kit, without having to plug the holes, by going on a U shape, connecting the bridges like...

..

U

instead of ._.

Get it? Yeah. Well I tried that with a pencil. Popped it back in teh mobo, booted. Went into bios, looked for multiplier options. While looking it froze. WTF? Booted again, into bios. Froze, faster. WTF? Took teh CPU out, erased the pencil. Then, I put it back in, and tried again, No POST. By then I was frantic. I took the CPU out and rushed to the bathroom and put the CPU under water, trying to get the graphite from the pencil out any way I could. Towel dried it and let it sit for an hour or so. Then I put it back in, NO POST! WTF!!!!!!!!! By now I'm just like FUCK IT. At the time, a friend in georgia had a 2.6c GHz P4, and he LOVED intel at the time. (has a 3000+ winnie now, rofl) and reccomended a Intel to me. This was in like september, november, of 2003. So, I bought the Giga-Byte, same model mobo as his, and 2.4c GHz. I loved that, and now I have my 4th AMD.

Anyway, here's some pics from today.
