Re-housing a SktA Athlon 2600+

First time I`ve done this to a K7 series, and I`ll be doing it 2morrow, from an ABit kv7 to a similar ASRock kt400a.

Anywho, what I was after was some real basic do`s and don`t`s i.e. don`t clean off the old heat pastey stuff with sandpaper and don`t submerge in soapy water.

The cpu will be housed under it`s original stock hsf.

TIA

Not much to say really. Just take the same care that you would with most electrical components. Socket A's have heatsink retention mechanisms. I've put a simple to use guide in the AMD section on installing Skt A HSF's

Well wouldn`t u believe it, I bust open a pack of "CoolMaster Premium Thermal Compound Kit" and there is both a credit card shaped thingy AND a template for a SktA & 423! Think I`ll use a busted k7 board to house it in whilst cleaning.

Hmm what was the stuff you cleaned the goo off the processor with - piccy is pretty blurred - more importantly what is it based on. i.e. alchyhol, non-alchyhol ?

Thanks WC, I aint never pulled a hsf off a cpu and had it come away like dry bubble-gum b4 >.<

Think it`s coz the cpu and pcb aren`t covered with a semi inch metalic square b4 human contact, more like a small rectangle with sub rectangles branched around it.

EDIT: AXDA2600DKV4D now nice`n clean thnx guyz ;) Let`s hope I didn`t frig something with the wire wool brush and soap powder.
