Razer Barracuda Soundcard

That card is probably heaps better than the X-Fi... /me not a fan of X-Fi cards at ALL. Overpriced POS.

Yeah but look at the back of it the only way it support's 7:1 is if you keep removing your headphone then use the converter cable's they supply (which they say lose's sound quality.

The razer sound card is optimised when used with the razer barracuda. I have got both and when used together. wwwwwwoooooowwwwww!! There is no match. Look at masongaming all spec on their. any other quires on razer porduct adn masongaming will always help.

I own a set of Razer HP-1's and have had the opportunity of using them with the AC-1 sound card. Admittedly, the sound is extremely good...quite possibly the best I've experienced whilst gaming - period! For those who don't know, the AC-1 is essentially an Auzentech card based on an OxygenHD chip. Because the AC-1's C-Media CMI8788 audio chipset performs most of its signal processing in software, there’s very little hardware acceleration available, which means that your CPU will take more of a performance hit with the Barracuda AC-1. If performance and very good sound is what you're after then get the X-Fi Fatality and the HP-1's. Otherwise, get the HP-1's and the AC-1 in my opinion.

Played BF2 with an X-Fi? It sounds seriously awesome

If someone could come up with a gaming standard that got near as good I'd embrace it. Dolby and DTS are good, but licences are very expensive so games don't have them

Meh, I`ve sat in a studio with it running, on a setup that I would definately need a mortgage to be even able to afford the screen and speaker outputs, yet alone the soundproofing.

But in terms of EAX itself, I find it fun to goof with, alien speach and whatever, but in actual games as effects vS just the samples I have had experiences where I`ve cringed hearing the effects as they`ve sounded so bad.

Maybe that`s more down to the games themselves other than EAX, I think if the game uses EAX.. and u don`t notice.. it`s doing a better job than if u can tell by the sound that it`s an EAX effect.

Take it or leave it, I dunno, I like the X-Fi only cos it`s a spawn of the older Live! cards. But would it influence me buying a card cos it`s not got EAX, I dunno.

I`m back in work on Monday, I`ll see if we`ve got any non-EAX cards lying around and setup 2 systems `n try out bf2 on them or something. Got some Radioman cards, but I don`t know how they hold up outside of their editing design.
