In this topic i will be reviewing the Razer Abyssus gaming mouse.
[Razer Abyssus front & Back View]
Well first things this is my first review here at OC3D so be gentle with me guys and hopefully i can give you all the information regarding this product.
Reasons for purchase:
Well even before i ordered this gaming mouse the reasons for me purchasing were pretty straight forward, first of all the price at only £27.99 it was measurably lower than most other mid to high end gaming mice ranging from around £50 all the way up to £120.
Secondly as a gaming mouse some users may wish to have at least some sort of extra functionality such as side buttons for assigning macro's and shortcuts, personally i find these buttons obstructing and a nuisance during day to day task's so this was the perfect solution with the integrated DPI changer and polling rate changer on the bottom of the mouse.
Lastly the Razer Abyssus despite being a lower price range still looks great with bright blue LED on the back end and matte rubber finish to the top to add a non slip like texture.
First Impressions:
Straight away you notice the packaging for the Abyssus despite the mouse being on the lower end of the spectrum Razer have not faltered on their packaging. The Abyssus comes in a true Razer fashion styled box with the common black and green colors and a matte finish, once inside the box you are presented with an array of paper work including; a certificate of authenticity, Razer product list, a master guide and a quick start guide. The installation and setup guides are well laid out and easy to understand showing clear depictions of the Abyssus and how it should connected.
Well after a few hours of breaking in the Abyssus and i can honestly say that it feels great. Even though the Abyssus does not offer any type of weight modification or other modification apart from the previously mentioned DPI changer and polling rate changer on the underside of the mouse, the overall build quality is outstanding the matte type finish to the top of the mouse is perfect for keeping a sturdy grip of the mouse whether your style is palm grip or claw grip the Abyssus feels comfortable either way.
The use of the integrated DPI changer and polling rate changer are a good addition to an already great mouse, located on the underside of the mouse they didn't pose any threat to my day to day tasks and were there when i needed them for gaming. All i had to do was simply slide the switch and the mouse would adjust itself immediately perfect for gaming situations where timing is everything.
Additional Software:
After reading through all the paperwork provided with the Razer Abyssus i notice that there is some additional software that can be downloaded from the link shown in the leaflet. After downloading and installing it's clear that the software is too enable to fine tune your settings and sensitivity for your Razer gaming mouse.
The Razer Abyssus Software offers the ability to change not only the Sensitivity/DPI of the mouse but also the sensitivity of scroll wheel, on the highest setting the Abyssus can scroll through entire pages in one roll, on the other hand on the lowest setting it will scroll one line per roll for more precise and slow scrolling, the Abyssus software also enables "On the fly" sensitivity changing so you can change it quickly with out having to quit your application or pick your mouse up. I found this software to be useful and worth the additional installation, my only recommendation is that it comes pre-packed in case you do not have access to the internet to acquire it.
Closing Thoughts:
In the end i would highly recommend this mouse to anyone that finds them self stuck deciding between a mouse that suits gaming or a mouse that suits comfort as this provides the best of both worlds. The Razer Abyssus is perfect for anyone on a budget but is still determined to play the games they love my overall score would be a 9/10.
