hey this is my first post and sorry for it being so long but i just upgraded from a P4 3gig with MSI P4N Mobo to a AMD AM2 4200+ cpu and a asus m2n-32sli Deluxe mobo, with same kingmax 667mhz ddr2 ram and same sata hdds and same msi 7800GTX gfx card.

since installing the new mobo and cpu and doing a fresh install everything ran fine. i decided to add my 2nd video card to do a 3d mark test, after i put it in the pc wouldnt start up or anything. i removed it again and pc still wouldnt boot up, i couldnt format or install windows at all. i went out and bought a 2nd 320gig hdd and done another fresh install thinking it might be the hdd not working. new install and it booted up but then it was resetting without warning every 5 mins or so. i tried the ram in all different spots and it was still doing it. since then i have had the pc running and it seems to reset maby 1 to 2 times a day and i can only run my 2x 1gig sticks of ram in single channel confg as soon as i try run it in dual channel it dosent want to boot up.

so im guessing its either the ram or the mobo. i hope its not the ram because i cannot afford more ram at $600AU. im going to try take it to a pc shop but i dont have the time atm.

so sorry again for long post i hope i got all info in, but please can someone help me.

Try resetting cmos by removing the silver circular battery thingy on ur mobo - take it out then put it back in, dont do it until another member has confirmed it though, im still a noob in training :p

to mrapoc: i have already done the cmos thing a few times now no diffrence.

to PV5150: i have updated the bios to 'M2N32-SLI Deluxe BIOS 0706' it still done nothing.

I'd test your RAM, use a free progam called [url']http://www.memtest86.com/[/url]

to nathan: i cannt find a way to burn the mem test on to a dvd to be bootable. any prog sujestions.

i cant see it being the ram because i have used it in old system and in this one with no problems im still thinking its the mobo.

Am I to assume the pc starts up as far as it`s post and thereafter u`r problems start ?

Does it just sit there black ? Does it get far enough to let u into Bios settings ?

to Rastalovich: the pc boots up i am able to watch movies play games, listen to music and all that but everynow and then it just resets. the only time it dosent boot up is when i try and run ram in dual channel mode where sometimes it shows the windows loading screen and sometimes it dosent even boot, but in single channel mode i can do most stuff and it may reset a few times a day. it cant be overheating as i just got a thermalright HR-01 cooler and it idles at about 30-35 depending how hot it is ( atm 36*c) and max is about 45* if that.

If the system runs fine for a while, or a long while, and simply restarts out of the blue, it can be software related. That can include OS.

Infact my first install of an x2 the windo$e install would do exactly as u say - run lovely and reset for no apparent reason. Leaving u thinking u`r psu isn`t big enough or whatever. The 2nd time around I installed windo$e including using the AMD drivers, in the way, and order, the AMD forum described - bingo - no probs since.

U`r problem with the dual and single channel memory use is quite common, I assume u mean 64bit to 128bit, it can be that u need to slow the memory and u`r clock down to stock levels, then try them out and establish that they`re actually capable of working at 128bit together. Then clock back up from there. Some mobos and pairings of memory just won`t do it. Well not as reliably as in 64bit.

U will need to get memtest onto a cd, I`ve got it on a prepped utils cd or 2, but prehaps some1 can direct u to how u can "get it off the web".

i have a thermaltake 560w scilentpower psu i have had no probs runngin with my P4 3gig and dual 7800gtx in sli im only running 1 card now with AM2 4200+ and new mobo.. i have done about 4 windows installs atm still same thing. and as for me saying dual channel ram when i run it as single channel it does say 64bit and dual channel says its 128bit.

personally dont think it has anything to do with software, if you have done a clean install that many times. Still need to check things even if they were working fine before.

Are you doing quick or full formats?

And also how much control do you have over your mem timimgs?

Changing a few of the mush lesser known ones sorted out my stability problems.

i have full control over everyhting by looks of it, i just dont know how to do it other wise i would try it. i only ever do quick formats takes too long with normal ones.

That could be the problem. As a general rule you should never do quick formats.

Quick just sets the disk to be seen as blank, rather than wiping it. Full returns all addresses to 0.

ya i just have 300gig of stuff to backup first then ill give it a try. but i still cannot run memory in dual channel which is one thing im annoyed at atm.

I`d definately run memtest on that memory tho, there maybe something afoot that is slight when u`r in 64bit and a larger factor in 128.

yeah im tryin got run it but i dunno how to make a bootable dvd. i got the memtest iso but dunno how to make bootable dvd
