Well this is quite frankly starting to take the

. I recently swaped out my weather sensitive belkin router for a fancy new linksys one. The whole point of getting the new router was too stop all the random cutt offs i got with the old, but the new one is infact worse.

This has lead me to belive that there may be somthing else wrong with the set-up. However, there are very few differences in my arrangment to others.

Firstly ive got the router situated in the loft. There temperatures up there are totaly indipendant of the house, being boiling hot in summer and freezing in winter. Could this effect it? As i know the old one got plain too hot in the summer.

Secondly i have a very long, fancy sheilded RJ-11 cable. could the length be causing issues?

tyia guys

I would try moving it to a different part of the house and seeing what happens.

As for the length of the cable, it should be less than 10m from your master BT socket, which is normally near the front door.

Well iirc the RJ-11 is 20m, so im gonng try the one that came with it (about 2m). And moving it into the actual house. If it continues i think im going to have a fit...

It's probably your phone line tbh.

Maybe noise on the line or something.

You could check the attenuation etc, just in case. Also where does the RJ11 extension go to? and what type of microfilter(s) are you using?

I have a NTE5 mastersocket with a microfilter built into it so every phone socket in the house is filtered (the way BT did it originally when ADSL was first out) and my RJ11 that comes from it direct to my room is unfiltered.

Its not the line as i can used the usb modem my ISP gave night n day for months (and used too). The microfilter is also the same.

How do i check the attenuation and what exactly is it?

I have the same router as you Ham, I also have a 20m unshielded cable. I don't get disconnects. The only difference with my setup is, the router is in the Hall and the cable goes up through into the attic then into my bedroom.

I'd put it down to overheating, maybe you could try it somewhere else??

I have my router up in the attic in the side cupboards n that overheats quite often in the summer, i just baught a £5 fan n put it on weneva it was too warm :), if its possible try that imo
