Random BSOD's and Power Save Mode entry

Hi guys,

I've used the forum on several occasions when trying to fix my computer. I thought it had worked only to find the same problems reoccurring later on. I need to get this fixed relatively quickly due to my A level courses starting soon. Here's a run down:

Problems:

BSOD: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

BSOD: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL

BSOD: undefined

Random Power Save Mode Entry (maybe the CPU/Mobo overheating???)

Specs:

Running on "Last XP" (shhhh....)

Abit KN9 Mobo

AMD Athlon 64 CPU 3200+

Corsair VX540W PSU (recently installed with no problems)

Corsair 2x1G DDR2 RAM (recently installed with no problems)

Broadcom 802.11g Wireless Network Adapter Card

nVidia GeForce 8600 GT (running omega driver 2.169.21)

Seagate 80Gb HDD

Hitachi 120Gb HDD

Asus DRW drive

Sony CDRWDVD drive

Dell 17" E167fp monitor

This has all been added gradually as I've built up my computer. Next on the list to upgrade is the Mobo and the CPU to Intel... do you think this would help?

Ive got old RAM and and old PSU which when replaced solved the PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and Random Power Save Mode Entry respectively. However the Power Save started again a few weeks later and the BSOD started again 6 months later. I have BartPE, MemTest and various other programs available to me if you could let me know what i need to check.

I'm running AVG 8.0 Free edition, Kerio Personal Firewall and Spybot S&D Free edition. All my drivers are up to date although they have been installed by Windows Updates. Various other sound & video codecs have been installed with no immediate problems i can work out. I use Azureus Vuze sometimes (I've heard Torrent programs can cause problems). I haven't recorded any of the memory dumps to date but any new BSOD's i will log them. Anything else you need to now just ask.

Basically..... HELP ME PLEASE!!!

Thanks guys

~TS~

I would try a rebuild, I got those kind of errors after I switched the main hard drive from an old IDE to a new SATA.

Re-build?

you mean just take it all apart and stick it back together again? cleaning anc checking as i go obviously. Hadn't thought of that! Almost like the old unplug it and plug it back in. Thanks.

I meant software rebuild but you could check for any dodgy connections as well. If a rebuild doesn't help it I would suggest a new hard drive.

What kind of ram is the corsair? value, XMS, dominator etc

Sounds like you might need more voltage/looser timings to me.

Unstable ram can be the case of the first BSOD. Iirc it can cause IRQ errors too.

I'd throw as many stress tests at it till something flags up an error. Get decent fans on every heatsink, after ensuring they're all mounted properly while stressing to eliminate overheating while stressing. If everything passes the test you know then something is overheating with the normal set-up.

I will be working to fix this PC this afternoon.

Gunna take the suggestions on board.. but i had a feeling that the RAM was configured incorrectly. ;)
