Hi I am new around here....
I have a bit of a problem I just can't seem to fix.
I built a new pc about 4 weeks ago. This is the first pc I have built in like 4-5yrs and by far the most complex one yet and the first liquid cooled for me. Here is the specs and some info then I will get on to my problem(s).
Asus Rampage Extreme MB running bios 501
Intel Q9650 @ 3ghz but OC to 4ghz
WD Raptor 300gb @ 10k rpms
4gb Corsair DDR3 @ 1800hmz 7-7-7-20
Asus 4870x2 factory OC @ 790hmz running 8.551.1.0 driver and 8.10 CCC
Corsair 1000w PSU
Vista Ultimate 64bit
Fantom 1TB extrenal HD
Samsung 305T 30"
All cooled using Koolance
So I get all the parts about 4 weeks ago except the GPU card. I had a PCI-E card around, nVidia 8500 256mb and the 4870x2 was on back order for near a month. So I decided to build the system with the old nVidia card and then drop in the 4870x2 plus liquid cooling once I had the GPU card. I had a lot of problems getting the system to stablize when first built. Finally solved those problems by loading the 501 bios and the system only runs stable with an overclock! I tried many many different setting in bios to get it stable but have only found one set up where it runs stable. The system though is currently rock solid and I have zero problems for normal use of the pc. No crashes, no blue screens, no lock up...nothing it runs super solid.
I get the 4870x2 last week and tear down the whole pc. Install the 4870x2 and liquid cool the whole system. I have the GPU, CPU, NB, MOSFET and HD on liquid cooling. I was going to do up the RAM too but it didn't work out so just using the Dominator fan set upon RAM. The 4870x2 installed fine with no problems and I updated both the drivers and CCC. 3dmark06 does not crash my system or give me any probs, I am getting around 19k in 3dmark06. Temps on the entire system are great, nothing over 35c under max load.
Now to my problem....
Once in awhile the system locks up or crashes while watching a movie in iTunes. Sometimes I can watch a whole movie or two and no probs, other times it will lock up or crash several times in one movie.
I have problems with games. The system runs Assasins Creed very well except the game is in windowed mode and I simply can not figure out how to change it to full screen. The system runs Space Siege very well too except 90% of the time I let the nVidia logo load it will crash the game or my system. If I press esc and skip the nVidia logo the game loads fine. It also runs perfect, no probs at all and looks great! If I play Warhammer Dawn of War series I can get 10mins to an hour before it will lock up or crash, either the game or my system. If I try to play Warhammer Online it loads the patcher and patches fine but as soon as I push the play button the patcher closes and the game doesn't load. No errors, no lock up, nothing just game doesn't load after patcher. When the system does crash or lock up it comes in a variety of ways. Sometimes a blue screen with error msg, memory dump and reboot. Sometimes it locks the screen up with graphical errors and a looped sound, have to hard boot to restart. Sometimes a game will just crash to desktop.
FYI: all these games and iTunes movies worked fine with the old nVidia card in the system. Thing was the card is so bad I didn't play Assasins Creed, Space Siege or Warhammer Online with the card due to really poor performance. I did however load all these games and they all worked just had horrible fps, like 2-5. So I played Warhammer DoW, watched iTunes movies and nothing else until I got the 4870x2.
Everything is updated and as mentioned my system is running solid with no problems other than the games & iTunes movies. So far I have tried running the games in compatibility mode, winXP. Changing drivers on GPU doesn't help. Changing setting in games or for the GPU doesn't help...such as resolution, AA and so forth. I unistalled Warhammer Online and repatched it, still doesn't load the game, same problem as before. I have ran memory checks/tests and my RAM is fine. I have reset my bios and even went as far as removing my battery to try and reset the system. No luck and no change.
Apologies for the long post, trying to give as much info as possible. I am a bit of a newb and I am at a bit of a loss right now. Hoping somebody around here can offer me some suggestions! :worship:
