RAM went mental

So I was just playing BF3 and all of a sudden it started lagging like hell... then saw on my left monitor, as I have task manager open, I saw that my RAM was going 100% mental for some reason.

Anyone knows why?...

Regards,
Chrazey

Meaning that I normally had about 8GB of use and then while gaming, it went up to 100% constantly and it lagged kinda like I was getting fps drops in the game.

If I remember right you have 32GB of ram? There's no way it would be using all of that in gaming?

Was it flicking between 0 and 100 like Barnsley said?

Yes, you are correct. I have 32GB of ram and it was using it during gaming, out of nowhere. It got so bad that I had to shut the game down and even in Windows it was still at 100%, so had to restart my PC (reset).

Umm, you mean go to 100% and then down to 0% and then up again and like that?... no, it was constantly at 100%, going around 97-100-98-100-99-100% etc...

a memory leak essentialy when an app does not release the ram after it has used it..
imn generall it should go:
use 1gb for this thing here. then its done with that it should release it, then it needs to use 1gb for something else, so it just re uses the 1gb it was using previously.

a memory leak goes..
i will use this 1gb here for this, ok im done with that "dont release the ram" I need 1gb for this so i will use an extra 1gb.. "dont release the ram"
and it goes on and on untill all the ram is used. and one of it is actually being used any more it was just never released so it cant be used for anything else..
Internet browsers seem to do it a lot now. But i cant imagine how many open tabs and plugins you would need for it to manage to eat up 32gb of ram even if you left them open all day..
At worse mine can eat up 2gb of ram which is pretty annoying.

it might be helpful next time to take a screenshot of your process list, this will almost certainly tell you what is using all that ram.

My Domm Plats did the same when they were failing on me. Along with the blue screens and lock ups the RAM usage out of 16GB was 99%.

Only thing is that I could barely move the mouse cursor to check that :(

I don't really think that's the case here, nor hope so... as it hasn't done it again since it happened. And have only happened that one time.

Probably. Submit an RMA and make a thread in the Corsair Customer Service bit if your ram is actually faulty

Hehe, were being a bit sarcastic there ^_^... I know that Corsair have legendary warranty, hence why I only go with Corsair RAM.

And I've done it before, but so far it hasn't behaved like that weirdly... so will wait and see if it continues the behaviour, before I go ahead and do anything.

Thanks though guys, I appreciate all of your help! :)

Double post here guys, apologies... but it happened once again now.

This time I was just browsing Chrome, so didn't notice any lagg ingame like last time. But glimsed over on my left monitor and on Task Manager and saw that the memory was utlizing 85%, just from Chrome. In normal use, it wouldn't even pass the 10GB mark (I have quite a few tabs open and have somewhat of an weird OCD about it, so don't ask).
And FYI, I have 32GB of RAM.

Any ideas on why it does this?... Had to restart the PC in order for it to go back to normal.

I've also noticed that these 2 occasions have occured while the PC has been on for a longer period of time, ie idling etc.

Thanks,
Chrazey

Well Chrome does have memory issues. It typically uses far more than it needs. How many tabs did you have open at the time?

Just enough for the tabs not to go black on a 24" 1080p monitor, due to being so many. So quite a few...

Still no task manager or process list screenshot....

Damn, forgot. Will do that next time it happens, if it happens.

Sorry for double posts here guys... but it happened again.

This is the second time it happened while gaming, my ram went up to 31,9GB out of 32GB. And my Samsung SSD, which is my main one, for my OS etc, were at 100% as well.

No screenshots could be taken as it froze up, so had to reset the PC.

My mates brother had the same issue and the only fix they found were to switch out the motherboard lol.
