Ram downclocking

Hey guys dot have a massive knowledge about ram other than some o them are faster than others an some require less juice. i had a thought. If say a 16gb kit 2133 mhz of ripjawsZ would it possible to downclock the ramm to say 1866 and trim the timings down a little. If if so what would it do. Do timing make a massive difference or would it impact performance for the worse. Like i said dont know mich but thats what this place is for. A mixing pot of electroknowledge

Cheers dudes and dudettes

If its for sandybridge, you wont gain anything downclocking even if you tightning timings.

Bandwith is what it likes.

it depends with amd, they get deminishing returns on raw mem mhz with the newer chips but the older cpu liked tight timings more than mhz.

What about on amd setups?

on bulldozer.. imc is one of the good aspects

you can make psc/ hynix based ram fly with pure frequency.

However how it will scale will depend also on timings and nb frequency... nb frequency on new and old amd setups can be just as important as frequency or timings.

On am3.. performance generally goes like this with memory:

nb frequency

then timings

then ram frequency

On sb.. frequency wins generally speaking... same thing on snb-e
