Raja Koduri has left AMD

In Retrospect, his intro speech during the Vega launch event kinda gave you that feeling, he sure has worked his ass off all these past years, maybe it's a good time to take a big break from everything and focus on spending time with his family. I guess, it has a name, it's called "research fatigue", timelines and schedules are pretty tight and when you fail to deliver to the exact specs it's nerve racking... At the Faculty we have 5-6 professors that had a huge career in companies like IBM, Microsoft, HP even the Max Planck Institute project leaders and such and they've all quit it for the more laid back professors life and family time...

It's not like Raja will have a hard time being accepted to a job....

Pretty sad to hear. He really put them in order and got everything on track.
I figured there stock would drop but so far it's no change.

I think that that the stock exchange is closed at this time, I think they open at 8 in the morning, when it's 8 in the morning in NY that is

TBH this doesn't surprise me when I first heard he was taking a break I really thought it meant he was leaving

AMD is the only thing stopping Nvidia from charging £699 for a 1070 type card, And we all know they would if they could get away with it, We all better hope AMD's GPU arm stays afloat, Especially if you're an Nvidia customer.

Yeah, at every major press event he hosted he always talked about his family and being away from them a lot. That would get to a guy after a while.

Rumors are he has landed a job at Intel

Hard to know if there is any truth to that. AMD is sure to have a non-compete clause in his severance package. That being said, California, where Intel is based, dies not support anti-compete clauses, so who knows.

There is also the fact that the said "As I think about how computing will evolve, I feel more and more that I want to pursue my passion beyond hardware and explore driving broader solutions."

"Beyond Hardware" does not suggest that he plans on moving to another hardware company.

Got any source to back that up? As WYP said, I can guarantee AMD would have a non-competing clause in his contract

Glad to see someone else sees the bigger picture. I'm sad for Raja but at the same time, this could be a breath of fresh air that helps AMD after Navi. Which is what I'm praying for, they've really shook up the CPU market, just need the same for the GPU market.

Wccftech posted an article about it. They apparently cited 'sources close to the related companies'. But, well, it is Wccftech so take it with a HUGE grain of salt. Many of their posts are based on rumours, and more often than not they're false.

This is slightly unrelated, but I compared the comments from this forum to the comments from Guru3D. The people over there seem to think he's been sacked. Some other comments were pretty hateful as well. Well done, members of OC3D, for not jumping the gun and shooting down someone.

Even if he has been sacked we still know what kinda guy he was so it's all good. He tried his best and gave his heart and soul, you can't ask for more than that.

I don't think it's jumping the gun, there are just a lot of thick people out there with low IQs tbh.

There was an unofficial rumor started by a random person that got reported.
There is no evidence he was sacked. In addition, he did so much for them it also makes no sense as to why they would forcefully make him quit.

He stands by his products with his face and name. Even if I don't like his product very much, I like that attitude.

The theory that shareholders forced him to quit because the smaller guy is to blame doesn't fly with me. Even if there is some truth to it, we'll never fully know under what context or how agreeable it was. People on the Internet, they see the world like it's nothing but pure evil, like at every top position there is some scumbag pulling strings, and poor Raja, the incompetent engineer, is on the chopping block for a less than stellar Vega launch that had a minuscule budget compared to the competition. Yes, poor Raja. And for shame, you suits in the top office.

I could be wrong, but that sounds more like an episode of Mad Men or a skit from Office Space.

The way he presented and put forward Polaris was excellent. He made no promises, spoke no BS and produced. Sure, to the high end snobs it was a non event but to enthusiasts it was a cracking launch.

Vega however? I dunno man. I kinda sensed that he wasn't happy because he said hardly anything, and then AMD come out with all of these BS interviews toward the end with some guy talking poo (Vega looks great, You can't tell the difference between Vega and the Titan XP) and so on. Throughout all of that he remained silent. I could just kind of sense that he wasn't happy.. Would you be? I know I bloody wouldn't :D

As I said before he seemed like a very stand up guy and a guy who stood behind his products and launches. But on Vega he all but disappeared.

No need to make a conspiracy theory out of nothing. He quit simply because Intel offered him a better job.

There are rumors, and then there is the back story. The important thing now is what's next for AMD. Rumors say Navi is all but tapped out. In theory that could run on autopilot and expand for a few years. I am curious as to where they will go next. It won't take Nvidia long to pass them if they stagnate.

It wasn't a conspiracy theory, those were my observations. He posted once about Vega, then pretty much vanished. It wasn't him doing those interviews toward the launch it was other people.

He has spoken of his pride of Vega since its release, claiming it is one of the most variable architectures in terms of efficiency.
