Raid install on P5W DH

Lo all,

If your setting up a Raid on the intel chip on this board the correct drivers (ICH7R) can only be made by booting from the supplied drivers disk and having a floppy ready. If you try to make the Intel Raid drivers from the interactive disk in windows it will for some unknown reason make for you the ICH8R drivers. I spent a good hour trying to sort this out yesterday :(. No where does it mention this in the manual or on the Asus site :@. I searched the net too, couldn't find anything. But good old Mav came to the rescue and gave me this tip, cheers mate :).

I have three Raptors in my raid 0 :B (1 was yours Stocky) and the EZ raid only supports two drives. I have no idea if the Asus P5B will be the same but you know what you can do now if it is.

Excellent, good to see she's in good use :)

I'd only be using two drives in RAID0, can I use this EZRaid for this?

You can do, I'm not too sure which is the best performing controller on this board (it has three!) I heard somewhere it was the intel chip.

Sounds like I may have to do a read up on this...

Do you know anywhere which shows the performance difference between the three (!!!) controllers?

The intel controller has always been the fastest raid controller on all the intel mobo's i've ever owned.

To utilise the Intel controller must you install the RAID0 when installing the O/S, or before the prompt?

Thats right, you've got to press f6 at the begining of the install and load up the drivers you've made by booting from the drivers disk. Oh before that you've got to enable the intel raid in the bios and make your raid by entering the raid controllers configuration menu (ctrl+i upon boot), but all of this is in the manual and is pretty much standard stuff, except for making those raid drivers in the first place.

Thats the anoying thing, if you make them from the disk in windows they arent suitable even though it says IC7HR. The only way to make the correct drivers is by booting from the drivers disk and this they don't tell you anywhere.
