R9 290x? Or TITAN?

I have been jumping between a few "Brand name" sites to compare the latest graphics cards by AMD and Nvidia. However I am in a 50/50 split as (in terms of performance) weather it would be a better idea to go with the r9 290x or the Titan from Nvidia. I can't seem to find an article I can trust and if anyone can share some info/personal knowledge that would be great. I do know that the 290x is much cheaper than the Titan but I am hearing that overall it is a more powerful card. Unless AMD is beginning to practice magic I am skeptical. I am just looking for some solid charts and/or evidence that could show me the "why's" and "hows". Thanks! :)

If this is for gaming, forget the titan and think about the GTX 780, the 780 trades blows with the 290x and is only a bit more expensive then a 290x, but the 780's are quieter and run less hot.

I can't believe somebody is asking this xD

Watch the two of Tom's most recent videos on it for all the info you need. Considering the huge difference in price it's a no brainer, and the performance of each depends on the benchmark or game, sometimes the Titan wins, sometimes the R290X.

You should compare the R290X with the GTX780 anyway, and personally I'd get the GTX780 as it's cooler, quieter, and sexy as hell (reference cooler), although I'd watercool it and have the cooler as an ornament lol.

If you have the patience, wait until 780Ti comes out. Even if it ends up being too expensive it probably also makes nvidia lower the retail price of 780.

if you have the money for a titan, get the r9 290x an water cool the whole of your system with the rest of the money

I agree with Looz about waiting for a bit. If the 780 Ti doesn't cost too much more than a 780 and outperforms a titan, it would be one hell of a card and would make the titan even more obsolete for gaming purposes.

Hang on for a while if you can, you'll have...

* The 780 TI coming (mid-November according to nVidia) ; that's going to have to out-perform the Titan at a lower price for nVidia to remain competitive.

* After-market custom R9 290X/290 versions hitting the market, they should be a good bit cooler and quieter.

If you ever depend on watercooling then a 290x has waterblocks available for them already from EK so you could get both of those for a little more than a 780.

Here you go straight from real world applications no bias,no bs,just from my gaming pc.

Real world applications ?

I also notice you are running an overclock on the 290X lol.

Having said that the 290X does overclock well in this, here is one of mine @1230/1625.

What any of this has to do with real world applications though I don't know.

OP go for the R9 290X and fit waterblocks, job done.

Have you done any with the set of 4 yet?

I can not run all 4 together yet as I am still waiting for a case to put them in. I have used them two at a time and they all overclock well. The only problem is having to use Asus GPU Tweak which is rubbish and quite buggy. Hopefully the other overclocking software will have volt control for the 290X soon.

You can't really compare a 290x with a Titan, they are in completely different price brackets. Because for the same price as the Titan you can almost get 2x290x's in CrossFire which would wipe the floor with the Titan. But right now the R9 290X is only using the reference blower designs and has massive shortages, if I was you I would wait until MSI release a Twin Frozr version of the card (ETA early 2014 or very late 2013?).
Or as people have said earlier on wait on the GTX780 Ti and see how it fares in benchmarks, but given the current shortages for the 290x you have time to wait.

As for pure performance between the two cards and ignoring price, it appears as though the R9 290x is faster, but it depends on your source. You also get benefits with Mantle, but no one, not even DICE know how it will affect performance.
