R9 290 or R9 290X Pre-flashed?

Hey guys, first post on here :P Just wondering what would be best for my system? I currently have a 6970 in my PC with a 3930K + R4E etc and was wondering what would be a liable upgrade? I have a budget of around £400 and was wondering if you guys could help?

I was looking at one of these (I don't know if I am allowed to post links to OCUK) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-094-HS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=2750 - which should give me a good price to performance ratio in my opinion. I was wondering if you guys think this is worth my money and if not, what other cards you would suggest? (I plan on adding a 2nd card later in the future)

Thanks, Paddy.

That is an insane amount of performance and the most you will get with your budget. I would get it before supply runs out.

Edit: 780 is on par with a 290.. but this is flashed to a 290x.. no competition for the money.

I look at multiple reviews not just one. After looking at many reviews from what results have been shown they are equal and trade blows every now and then. They just lose more in synthetic benchmarks which are pretty worthless unless you are aiming for world records.

Thanks for all of the fast replies! The only games I play now are Battlefield 4 and League of Legends and with Mantle I think that the R9 290x would be a better option? Or should I just wait for performance numbers to be released?

Thanks again guys!

Well Mantle is next mth so i'd wait and see if you whant to see tests done with it.
Ether card will run bf4 in ultra setings.

For some reason I am having second thoughts about how hot the card actually runs... Would it be worth my money to just go all out and get a 780ti? I am very picky about how the temps are in my machine and I am just not comfortable knowing that it is running at 95 most of the time...

Was thinking about getting this : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-232-MS&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1402 - it's the cheapest I can find and seems like a good deal? Any thoughts or should I just stick with the 290x?

You could just wait for a 290 aftermarket cooler to come out. Heat is not a big deal though. It won't effect anything else due to it all being exhausted out through the back of the pci bracket.

Get a 290x and a custom cooler for it. NZXT announced a mounting bracket for an AIO cooler which would keep the 290 nice and cool AND enable you to overclock it (before anyone says you can't, you can). However you might want to see which is cheaper. If the 780ti is cheaper and you don't want to wait for the custom coolers for the 290 then go for the 780ti :). The 290 is a beast tbh, typical AMD for ruining an excellent product with a cooler that I wouldn't use to cool a 'tater.

Yeah, I really want a good all round card. One that performs well and is relatively quiet and temps are decent. Now looking for the cheapest 780ti as the MSI one I linked has risen from £500 to £560 :(

Just a little update, ordered the 780Ti and should be with me on Tuesday. Will post a picture of my rig when it arrives, although it won't go with the red/black colour scheme I am sure it will be a awesome card! :)
