R700 confirmed Radeon HD 4870 X2

Pricing aside, if were going to continue to compare the camps of green vS red, I feel the GT280 vS 4870x2 is a non starter. GT280 in SLI vS 4870x2 for performance would work.

Pricing, well that`s a market thing.

2G tho ? What we gonna use that for ?

Rast - I disagree 100%.

You compare products from the same price category. The X2 is technically one gpu so 280 vs X2 is fine.

280 sli vs X2 xfire.

Tox - it's just shared anyway, xfire is mirrored so there is only 1gb ever being used...

Indeed, what are we gonna use 2GB for?

Anyways, seems like a good card, I think ATI/AMD may be able to get the lead again. :)

Why do people use tri sli 280s? Its a waste lol. Im glad this card is gonna be beast for a cheap price. Maybe Nvidia will get off their undeserving high horse and drop some prices.

So...

CF 4870's beat out 280 sli from some of the reviews I have been reading. Totally wastes a single 280 so the 4870X2 is a worthy upgrade. I''m getting one pending some real reviews but it has to perform as well, if not better than CF 4870's.

Whooooooooopah!

Note: Obviously I'm talking about big boy res, no piddly little 1680's... 24"+ club members :) (that is my clause becasue I haven't paid attention to the lower res's but I bet it rocks those too)

When is it out? Aug? Whoooooooopah!

P.S Jim - I'm loving whooooooooooopah

A single 280 beats out a single 4870 so how do you figure this? What reviews are you reading? Crookedpencilreviews.com?

If you wish to discuss the actual power of each camps new cards I would suggest you drop Crakinshot on UKCS a PM.

He is working with both doing high level ray tracing for DX and can conforim the performance of both camps. nVidia overpowers the ATi by more than double and to add insult to injury for ATi, CUDA allows for far more powerful applications compared to Brook+ utilisation.

Insight into his DX11 exploits

Hey, thanks for that. The link is blocked at work so I'll read it later at home :)

Unless dx11 is ray tracing and not rasterization then I don't care! I'm buying for now not the future. Whatever works best now... Either camp. I don't care. I want some new stuff... E8600 clocked to 4.5ghz would be nice or some uber powerful quad... 3.6 q6600 is getting old tech, need faster. gx2 is not fast enough...

Oh brother. Your saying 9800GX2 is not fast enough when my 8800GS is plenty enough for me to run everything on high.
