Permafrost

Compo Whore
hi guys, just a quick one, i'm looking to replace mt case fans from a corsair C70 and when to know what fans to do so it you thing the stock fns are not very good?

also i have a thermaltake smart m850w and the psu fan is the loudest thing in my room, thermaltake are not being very helpful at all, so what can i do about it?

thanks again for any help anyone can give me!

how quiet are they and are they better noctua on the money side of things?

Way better than Noctua in price (and aesthetics...the poo brown and beige theme doesn't really fit anything nowadays...or ever.), and from what I've seen/heard on YouTube reviews, they are definitely quiet.

I got some Fractal 140mm with the white blades and they are inaudible @ 12v

I have a Silent Wings 2, 120mm version and they aren't that good. Can't be put on radiators, and they don't shift much air

Yeah but they don't claim to be that powerful, nor suited for rads. In fact, on
their website (last time I checked), they explicitly label their fans as case fans.

They are excellent fans IME, you just have to know if they're suited to your
needs. If you want something ridiculously silent they should definitely be on
your list, but since there's no such thing as a silver bullet in engineering you
will of course not get blower style performance ;)

Haha, well I'd have hoped they didn't label them as rad fans! :p

I agree they are better, and a lot quieter than a lot of alternatives. They are probably the quietest I've used at 12v actually... But at 7v they push no air, and actually still make a similar amount of noise as they do at 12v. Therefore if you run them at lower speeds, they aren't as silent as other offerings, such as Silverstone AP121s in my case.

@FTLN - saying any fan is 'inaudible' at 12v is complete rubbish, and doesn't help anybody. All fans make noise at 12v, if they didn't I'd be extremely worried.

Bitfenix Spectre Pro are very good fans, and once you take them down to 50/60% they very quiet. And they have good quality motor which means that they doesn't make buzzing noise like for example Corsair SP120 etc.

I can also vouch for the spectre pros. Really nice quality, aesthetically pleasing fans. I have a 200 and 140 in my 600t

just had to cancel an order on amazon, ordered 2x140mm for the front of the case and 1 x 120mm for the back for a corsair C70....

I think I'll make a little video to prove my point then.. Saying that though, I havent fitted them yet, just plugged them into a 12v controller and tested them on the sideboard, so maybe due to there being no case that is why they are inaudible...

I actually have the slowest rpm Noiseblocker Multiframe 120 mm, and I can only
hear it when I hold my ear within ~ 15 cm of the fan, and even then I can just
pick it up. And no, I don't have damaged hearing

Naturally, it does not push a lot of air, but it's completely sufficient to provide
a slight breeze over my HDD's.

Also yes, when there's nothing in a fans blowing path, it will make less noise.

Looking over the specs again - 600RPM at 12v?
That's lower than even the 230mm Bitfenix fans do, and half of what the equivalent 140mm bitfenix fans do...

Back to what I originally said - I agree now, it may be pretty silent at 12v, but then again, if it's only doing 600rpm it will be pushing such a pathetic amount of air I don't even think there's a point in having the fan.

There are fans that come out of the box undervolted, but I see absolutely no point in them. Scythe GTs for example - you can get many different RPM versions, up to 5400rpm even (although that's a bit crazy). I'd much sooner have a faster spinning fan at 12v that I can under volt if I feel it's too loud than one that will never shift a lot of air.

All I really need from my HDD fan is to prevent the air around my HDD's from
sitting completely still, for which such a fan is quite well suited. But yes, as
soon as you actually need to push some air, I would chose something else
as well.
