I run a HAF 922 and have long enjoyed loud air-cooled computers. Within the case sits an Asus Z87-A, a 4770 (non-k), and a CM 212 Evo. Along with other bits of (gfx/memory) kit, frontal, side, exhaust and top fans this ran nicely for about a year. Yes, i enjoy regularly dusting. It's kinda like watering a plant.
Following the first year, the 212's stock fan died
. It was then replaced with the Noctua IPPC 3000 rpm fans in a push/pull & final pull on the rear case exhaust
. The 200mm side panel, top and front fans were adjusted to respect airflow or left alone.
In crafting the configuration I've really enjoyed the Asus Fan Expert software. When running a flight sim and taking off from an airbase i can both hear and feel the jet engines wail via the IPPC and case fans going full tilt at nearly 3k & 1100 rpm, while if using voice comms/telephone i can bring them down to near silence. The immersion while in a sim (GT3 car or F16), of the wailing IPPC fans has been great. Far better than just sampled audio in headphones.
This of course leads to a bit of a realization. Noctua do not make any 200mm IPPC fans do they?
Are there any genuinely good 200mm fans that spin quickly and make great loud sound preferably whose speed can be varied somehow? Note, - i don't mean fans with cheap, lousy bearings which will fall apart, perform poorly and make a terrible screeching sound or something similarly loud for its own sake.
Fans which will genuinely increase airflow and cooling within the computer's case while being capable of sounding like screaming banshees not unlike the denizens of the Mulsanne and Kemmel straights OR be lowered to near silent audio levels for voice comms related activities?
It's half tempting to look into automotive parts or perhaps outdoor marina related solutions.
In any event, - Where would i find Noctua grade, IPPC style 200mm fans for the 922 to replace the current fans which only peak at a fairly pedestrian 1100 rpm?
