quick question about homeplugs?

Hey guys, so i just purchased some homeplugs for my room to get a better connection.

They seem to be working fine and my speed has improved a bit but i was just wondering something.

Currently the light that indicates the data transfer rate is red (instead of orange or green) which means a data transfer rate of less than 48mbps. My internet connection is up to 40 meg so is this all good or is data transfer rate a different thing entirely and i should be getting a green light (higher than 100Mbps)

thanks

If it says that in the manual then the light is an approximation of speed between your homeplugs. It's just how fast you can transfer data between those homeplugs and it can be faster than your ISP connection. In a perfect setup you should get a higher speed than that but depending on the age/quality/interference of your home wiring that may be slower, as in your case I would assume.

Yeah i think that appears to be the case. Annoying though as my room was part of a new extension so you would think the wiring would be pretty good. All that aside my connection is stronger than it was with the wireless dongle so can't complain!

Another thing to take into consideration, is the length of the cable in the wall they are all rated on distance, sometimes it can improve just going round the room, or investing in another plug to act as a repeater.
I have 4 in my house, getting just under what we get in at the router, its ment to be 40Mb, but i get around 36 in at most times, then up stairs with the home plugs im getting 34.9 with a 9ms ping which i think is pretty good.
How ever my landlord is further round the house and when he connects to the plug by the router he gets 10Mb if he connects to me he gets pretty much the same as i get.
So a spare one as a repeater might be needed if you increase you net speed.
