Quick Flick of the Fans

Right, so I set up my new rig today

Abit Fatality FP-IN9

Cooler Master iGreen 500w

e6600

320GB HDD

8800GTS

Needless to say, I've been psyched about this build for a few weeks. So i get it all hooked up and go to turn it on!!... and all I get is a quick flick of the LEDs and the fans spinning. It's such a common error but for some reason I can't fix it. At first I had an 8pin connector loose, didn't help, then I decided to rewire the build again, this time making sure everything was just right, and I'm 95% sure it is.

So please tell me, wtf is up? Suggestions? I'll try the old PSU if I have to, and there is no other solution.

I also have a video I took on my phone, sorry for horrible quality but you can see the LEDs flash on... it's got to be opened with Quicktime cause of the weird format.

what RAM?

You do have the main ATXPWR, ATX12V1, gfx card power plug connected & an rpm signalling fan connected to the CPUFan header?

It's also possible that the PSU just isn't man enough.

RAM is GSKILL PC2-6400 that was pulled out of one of my rigs, and has only seen about 3-4 months work. The iGreen 500w will be fine to provide enough voltage for that rig. I'd be looking at the motherboard personally.

Edit: Just checked the Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLI RAM compatibility page here and it doesn't have those GSKILL's listed. Perhaps it's fickle with RAM.

I take it that you have tried running it with bare essentials Mike?

Yea, ran it with the mobo hookups and just the gfx cause i forgot to unplug it. If the RAM were fickle wouldn't I just get some kind of error, and it wouldn't turn off. What if the processor is dead, what would happen then?

Also, should I jumpstart the PSU to see if the PSU is the problem?

Well, I think I found the problem. It seems the PSU is faulty. The red light on the back which means there is a problem blinks on when I hit the power button, and the PSU didn't run even after I jumpstarted it, and my old PSU would run. Unofortunately, I can't use the old PSU for the time being as it doesn't have the necessary plugs :( I guess I'll just have to wait.

Always has to be something wrong with a new build :(

You don't need the 8 pin, you can just use a 4 if its got it.

And with the older nvidia cards they drew enough power too turn it on, but you couldn't go into 3d mode (no games), don't know if this is the same with the 8800s though.

it might work :/

yes, it turns out that I'm 95% sure it's the processor after the use of a multimeter, and a little bit of logic... doh :( never by a "Never Used!" processor off craigslist :(

ING PROBLEM. I'm just going to go jump off a roof.

Unplug everything and remove all the cards. Take mobo ouit of the case.

Just plug in the 24 pin power and the 8 pin, While the mobo is sitting on ur desk.

Put in the CPU and fan and memory.

Instead of the power button just touch the 2 contacts the power button plugs in to.

(I have had problems with power buttons before and shorts from standoffs that were in the wrong place)

Strange u`r new cpu not getting it going, u`r ot description sounded textbook cpu prob.

Can u even talk it into an auto-bios flash screen thing ? Or u no posting at all ?

Last time I seen that was an ASUS barebones, cpu was duff. EXACTLY as u described.

Needed a flash to go 64 bit, but atleast with a working cpu in it posted with a strange id of what the cpu was. (think it just took it as a 32 bit version or something)

Go with mark`s suggestion atm tbh. Stripping right down with a problem like this is the best way to single stuff out. Still reckon it`s a cpu->mobo problem if it`s not posting.

Alright I haven't had a chance to test more memory, as I have a very, un techsavvy town. However, I believe the reason it shuts off so quickly is the PSU is an iGreen and has all kinds of weird technologies like that, as my old PSU will stay on. However, I know have a long continuous and extremely loud beep and it still doesn't post. Anyone know what a continuous beep means?
