Quadro Vs GTX

am trying to Build a Workstation for 3D Rendering , The extent of work would include 3DS MAX , MaYa , Adobe Premier Pro and After effects cs5 - I need opinion choosing between Quadro or High End GTX card.

I would be doing Loads of rendering and 3d Modelling , texturing Lightning and all that.

CPU : i7 3930K

Mobo : ASUS P9X79 Pro

Ram : CMZ16GX3M4X1600C9

PSU : Corsair AX850

HSF : Corsair H100

Case: Corsair Obsidian Series 650D

HDD :Intel 320 Series GEN3 160GB 2.5IN SSD SATA2 + WD 1.5TB Black

GPU : Quadro 5000 or GTX 580 (no point getting 590 as SLI is not supported by adobe suit)

I need serious performance , I have been using other alternatives like cpu rendering on render farm and cuda hack on gtx 460 / 560 but This machine or even something better is needed.

Buy Quadro 2000.

You will not get same performance in "pro apps" with top end gaming card as cheapest pro cards.(at least so was when I've used quadro fx 560 after geforce 8800 gts in 3ds max - in games side" I've played crysis on maximum settings with 8800 when with FX even Counter strike was sometimes lagging.

Unfortunately you can't make custom driver(add gtx strings to .inf file) anymore, so you would get much, much stable driver(with minimal bugs and app crashes, I would say zero). So, if you know any way to use quadro driver on geforce - do it. So you'll have additional 20% reason to buy geforce.

Anyway, if you use GPU rendering engine(not CPU), then I don't really know - thing is, I guess you know, quadros have much better quality(when it's said to have 16x anti-aliasing it really does anti-aliasing), on the other hand you still can play with quadro 5000 if you want, with little bit less performance - but still it'll be enough good to play.

First try with quadro 2000, if it will not be enough - buy 5000.

I wouldn't be playing games , however i could not find any benchmarks for GTX vs Professional cards for CS5 and Autodesk products , Quadros are expensive and "should" perform better but i am concern is if 50% price difference is justified for for anything less thn 40% performance. I do not have numbers to back any of this , and this is what i am looking for or anybody with experience of using both .

I need maximum price/performance , for serious work , wont be gaming at all.!

I guess it's for ~40% difference in performance in 3ds max. But, buy quadro with similar price what you wanted to pay for gtx.(I would say pay twice price - it deserves).

However, if you're "entry" level artist buy gtx, I guess you are not.

search for benchmarks individually. for GTXes on pro. apps and then quadro on same apps - you'll see difference

If it can take advantage of multiple gpu's that ARENT in sli the GTX 590 is still an option as you can just disable SLI in the nvidia control panel so they act as 2 separate cards.
