Quad Core Reviews!

Even though I'd love to have one, the fact it requires me to upgrade my motherboard (2 months old) because 975 and 965 chipsets aren't supported, irritates me. But hey, that's what Intel do lol. I think I'd take the Xeon filled Mac first, that's got some impressive numbers on the board.

Wouldn`t it be something if a mobo manufacturer brought out a board with a 1000 pin zif holder for the processor, and u can put any processor in it u like.

The mobo being inteligent enough to identify the cpu, adjust it`s main bios background and the user moves forward as if it were a normal board with cpu as we buy today.

Each bios sub storage of cpu types, 939,745,555,666,101,effeffeff will be in an area that can be flashed so u can upd8 it seperately as the need arises.

This way u could put in any processor u like.

~future stuff~

That would be perfect

I'd love to have one of these baddies once they drop in a price a bit, totaly folding pwnage no doubt. What chipsets will support the quad-cores anyhow? Don't mind my inability to read the articles and find out, it's 6am on a saturday morning and I can barely read what I'm typing right now.

ROFL it's ok mate. I believe the Bearlake chipsets are poised for QX6700 quad core goodness. Although I have seen benchies run on the Bad Axe 2's 975X chipset.

That's what confuses the hell out of me, because I have as well. Are we certain that these won't run on 975X?

That's Badaxe II - Badaxe I does not support it afaik. Some motherboards are asble to support Kentsfield but it's unclear at present which ones.

I don't see the point of quad core until some decent software is written utilising them to their full potential - mebbe next year or so

I was under the impression that it was down to power requirements again.

I remember hearing somewhere that Quad-core chips are supported by 975X but need at least 8-Phase power boards to work properly.

the Asus P5b Deluxe will work fine, as will most other 975/965 boards ;)
