Q. Does adding GPU block void warranty?

I know some companies are fine with you fitting after market coolers, others have a hissy fit. I THINK EVGA is one of the ones that lets you do a fair bit. If not, as long as youre careful with the thermal paste (and it is similar colour) they have no way of telling

Off topic, I read that there is no real difference between this GPU and the normal 800GTX graphics card except that it has been overclocked.

I can't decide which of the GTX versions to get:

Superclocked EVGA or normal EVGA or BFG with waterblock (made by dangerden)

I guess the KO version means you cant OC it even further????
 
The advantage of the KO (factory overclocked) is that you dont have to 'risk' burning out the GPU by overclocking it, you should be able to take it higher though.

That comes down to the warranty again. If they get an RMA card back and manage to retrieve its bios and the clock speeds are higher than stock then you will be recieving your dead card back in the post. This is their way of supplying you with an OCd card without the risk

Get a stock one and you can clock it past any retail 'superclocked' one - and it costs less.

Stock version with w/c will give you more headroom for clocking - get full a full cover block or gpu block and ram sinks. Choice is yours. A full cover block is more restrictive though but cools more than just the gpu/ram.

I like full cover ones. They look sexy too.
 
Get the BFG if you have a water setup.

Great card, solid company and software overclocking is very hard to spot (i.e. you don't really void your warranty if they don't know)

KO may be cherry picked but if you want a cherry picked GPU then get a Gainward Golden Sample or an XFX XXX Edition

Just curious: Can't you just find out what the optimized specs for the KO version is and use these factory settings to apply it to your normal GTX card without running the risk of ever frying it?

That way you can get the KO version without dishing out more bucks.
 
The BFG is a nice card but they are charging a premium for it too....I would prefer to get a card and intsall the EK cooler as it looks better and less restrictive than the Danger Den version (as shown in another thread on the forum). From a resale perspective it's also easier to sell on cards and give the buyer the option of the card fitted with the block and or the stock HSF.

99.9 percent of the time, yes, you will more than likely be able to take it a fair bit higher than the KO speeds. However, it would still be advisable to work your way up step by step as occasionally a card will be slightly defective and will not overclock as far as its brothers - then cranking it straight to KO speeds would kill it

Well the ideal solution would be cherry picked Gainward Golden/XFX XXX Edition WITH watercooling but it all depends on budget. The difference in max OCs won't be all that different so it is up to your wallet...
 
I guess there's no defiable difference with one that is OC'ed and one that isnt except only in benchmark testing....
 
Well you should notice substantial FPS increases and improved GPU F@H but other than that you are correct. That card will hammer all current games and handle the newer DX10 games pretty well so you would be fine sticking at stock for some time

Last I heard GPU folding was ATI's domain entirely, they can't get it to work on Nvidia gpu's.

i knew ATI were alot better with it, didnt know NV couldnt handle it atall :( that sucks
 
about the warranty on the EVGA card.. i have talked to them before about it when i water cooled my 7800gt

as long as you keep the original heatsink and put it back on when you send it in for rma, it wont matter to them

but that was a while ago... call evga about the warranty they have good customer support
