Putting a 1333fsb processor into a 1066fsb mobo

I sold my old processor before I updated the bios.

My commando only supports a 1066fsb with the current bios.

I don't have a floppy or a copy of the new bios.

G0 Q6600's don't exist. They are a figment of my delusional mental state. I'm therefore forced to buy an e6850.

Only e6850 = 1333fsb. Means I'll get some cpu error when I drop it in. Anyone know if I'll be able to hit F1 to continue into windows then do the bios update there? Although for some reason none of the mobo utilities work... Some error or other... So maybe I won't be able to flash the new bios...

Roll on penryn.

I'm not impressed.

Is the BIOS chip on the Commando removable? I can't remember

If it is, you could just ship the BIOS off to another Commando owner and get it flashed? :yumyum:

Can't remember either... You should know, you love this mobo lol ;)

if not, ship your mobo to somebody to flash, im sure a few people on here wdnt mind.

Aye, but by the time I send it and get it back (at some cost too) the Q6600's will be here!

U got any el cheapo 775 cpus in the house ?

Nope! :D

I might google bios chips and see...

I guess this is a stupid decision as I'm simply hacked off with waiting for the new proccys... :(

Go shove your head inside the rig mate. If it's got a removable chip then just 1st class it over to me and i'll flash it for ya. job done.

Hmmm... Isn't more delusional to think that the G0 model is the only option? Can't you go for a B3 model? They ARE great processors, if not just as good as the G0 parts. There isn't really any solid evidence about the G0 being a better chip. There is some, but not enough yet.

Tuco - man, I was joking! B3 counterparts need more volts and reach lower clocks at higher temps. There is plenty of evidence in XS!

Ham -£200 to just stick it in is a bit much!!

How high do you plan on taking it? Mine is on stock volts at 3 GHz, and soon to be taken futher. Temperature under load is only 53 C, and that's on air.

Hi mate,

Nice load temps.

I'm down grading to plain water cooling, and I hope to get 3.6 @ 1.4v - this seems likely, some luck people have got more (3.8+), with less/same volts, on air, stable (in the xs q6600 OC database).

I won't deny there are good B3 chips out there, and even getting a G0 does not guarantee a big stable OC, it simply seems better odds.

There are lots of B3's that hit a wall at 3.3/3.4. The G0's seem good for 3.6+.

It will come down to luck in the end.

Have you tried upping the volts to 1.4/5v to see what you can do on air? (Just curious as you hinted at trying for more)
