I Have been buying various items of the last few months for an up coming water cooling set up . rad fitting hardline tube , tube res .
Are pump tops compatible with any pump or are they brand dependant .
Or is the answer more diverse .
This is the only thing about the water cooling i'm a little foggy about any help would gratefully received . :)

They are specific to the model of the pump you have. The most common pumps used are D5s and DDCs. These are the only two pumps that I am aware of that have available pump tops.

Pump tops are not always necessary, but can increase the practicality or aesthetic value of the pump. You can buy bare D5 pumps which do need a top, and they're slightly cheaper than ones with the housing. Pump tops generally offer extra ports and can also have an integrated reservoir.

This is the bare D5 which requires a pump top

As standard D5s have two 1/2" barbs, but you can stretch 3/8" or 7/16" tubing over them with the aid of hot water for an extremely good fit.

I have a variable D5, and couldn't recommend it more if you haven't already chosen a pump. I also have a clear acrylic Alphacool pump top.

Thanks Remmy Ive not bought the pump yet but I have bought a Bitspower Z-Multi 400mm Water Tank Reservoir : BP-WTZM400P-BK , I shall go with your advice on the pump ,
