PSU problem

My PSU is hot even when the PC is off and I mean pretty hot when you touch the back of the PC!

If I switch off the PSU or unplug the PC from the AC, then the PSU temp cool down. But if I do this when I restart my PC all my parameters have been reset from the BIOS.

I guess that the problem of my BIOS parameters maybe link to the ion/lithium battery that need to be changed. But could it also explain why the PSU stays hot while the PC is off!

TIA

Yeah it does sound like you need to replace your mobo battery.

As for the PSU - even when ur machine is off, most PSU's will power certain parts of the motherboard. The biggest culprit is if you have lots of USB devices and your motherboard is configured to power them when off. Essentially the PSU is still working - but without any fans on.

Thanks for the reply and explanations on the PSU.

I just changed the battery and at least if fixed the BIOS reset.

I have 6 USB ports on the PC, can I change this "power when off" in the BIOS or is it something that could not be changed?

There should be a setting that says something like "Power on from USB", "Power on from Network", etc etc. I believe the reason it keeps them powered on is because 99% of keyboards these days are USB and some people like to use a keyboard-on rather than pressing the button on their machine.

Depends on what motherboard you have really. Most of the mobo's i've seen have a jumper on the board. Its mainly so you can resume your PC with a USB mouse/keyboard - but if you've got other stuff in it will power that too.

The jumper will be labelled +5VSB for USB or something similar, +5VSB is the power output from the PSU which continues after the system is "switched off" with the ATX power button.
