500GB Seagate Barracuda SATA2 16MB

2 * 2gb OCZ PC2 6400 GOLD EDITION XTC

256MB HIS X1950Pro,TURBO PCIe

Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R Socket 775 Motherboard

Intel E6750 Core 2 Duo 2.66Ghz

VUSYS Space Warrior Yellow

This is my Setup so far, I.E what I have ordered.

Just wondering if the HX520 will be sufficient power for this setup, taking into account in the future I may add up to 3 more HDs, and I may venture into overclocking.

Quick replies would be appreciated a I plan to order this PSU soon..

I am on a budget, so I hope this PSU is suitable :)

Thanks

Yep, It's a perfectly capable PSU.

Other alternatives include:

SilverPower 600w

OCZ GameXStream

I no the gameestream is a similar price, not sure about the SilverPower, but are either of those Better in your opinion?

"Suitable?" heck yes:)

very good choice

Really? Cool :D How upgradeable would my ystem be and still be able to use this PSU?

Well neither of the two I mentioned are modular, but I'd say the SilverPower is on par with the HX in terms of performance. If you want modular your choices are really:

OCZ ProXStream - noisy, expensive

Silverstone Strider - dodgy modular connectors

Seasonic M12 - same as Corsiar HX but with an extra fan (louder)

The SilverPower 600W , is more wattage (obviously :) ), at a similar price. However I am aware wattage isnt all that is important.

Essentially based on what you have said I will most likely stick with the Corsair HX520.

The original PSU I was getting was an antec truepower trio, how do the two compare?

As for the 520, If 520 is definately suitable, I will definately get it.

If hypothetically I had the following:

4 * 500GB Seagate Barracuda SATA2 16MB

2 * 2gb OCZ PC2 6400 GOLD EDITION XTC FULLY OVERCLOCKED

2 * 256MB HIS X1950Pro,TURBO PCIe (CROSSFIRE OR WHATEVER :) )

Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R Socket 775 Motherboard

Intel E6750 Core 2 Duo 2.66Ghz FULLY OVERCLOCKED

VUSYS Space Warrior Yellow

would it still manage?

Thanks

Yeah the HX 520 will power that with one hand tied behind it's back.

True that wattage isn't everything, but the Silverpower recently got our "best in class" award (we give out about 1 of those every 100 years ;) ).

If you go with either you won't be disappointed at all. ;)

Any idea why specialtech dont stock the SilverPower?/

If you are going to upgrade to 2 GPUs I would get the Corsair 620.

Hdds draw very little power compared to video cards (I have seen comps with 10 Hdds)

I have a Excellent PS for sale if ur interested

I most likely wont get two GPUs but I am just considering the future. What is your opinion on the fact that XMS thinks it could handle the upgrade eaisly?

Would be interested, but not in the US... :(

The staff here are VERY knowledgeable and I would take their advise on any subject.

The 520 will work EASILY with 1 x1950 Video card (may have to work a bit with 2 though) however I think to have a bit of headroom is good to be on the safe side if there is a POSSIBILITY of upgrading (the 2900XT is a power hog)

Top PSs from Corsair and the brands I use FSP and PC Power&Cooling can easily work at their full potential. (the cheaper PSs cant)

I have sent parts to both Ham and PV5150 and the shipping is very reasonable.

I am using one in my current rig (check profile) and it runs fine :)

Seems I cant see your profile, I may need 25 posts or something. Could you post it here?

The HX 620 is £80, the HX 520 £60, as far as PSUs go, I only really budgeted £40.

Thus should I get the SilverPower 600W, which XMS suggested, as that is around £60 too.

In regards to PSs could you explain what they are as I am a bit lost.

Intel C2D E4300 @ 3ghz

Gigabyte 965P-DS3

2x1gb OCZ Platinum PC6400 Rev.2

BFG 8800GTS 320mb

Pretty much sums it up :)

Seems kinda similar to mine. Basically now I know it will work on mine, but need reassurance in regards to if I upgrade to that super rig I posted a few posts back...

PSs is short for Power Supplies (I get kind of lazy sometimes)

I saw ur mobo choice (only 1 Video card) so the 520 is fine.

Untill your post I never heard about the SilverPower brand but if XMS recommends them they must be good.

(personally I would go with the Corsair)

My mobo can only have 1 video card?? Lol Shows what I know. If so is there any reason not to get the 520?

What can I upgrade in my setup?

Thanks

you could go to a Quad core and you could go 8800 for the video card. And up to 8 Gigs of memory....and dont forget a Raid array on the Hdds...

(LOL, I have a 8800 and the PS if you want)

So basically if I upgrade the only thing I cant do is get two video cards?
