PS3 Pricing revealed

personally im not sure, i would like to think not because it's a lot of money, but if blueray wins the standards war then it would be classed as a cheap blueray player, but on the other hand, if HDdvd wins the war, then i think everyone will be laughing at sony - which i hope is the case as i hate there company.

I hope it'll blow the Xbox out the water! Even if it does manage to do this or not, both consoles will be churning out nice sharp games. I still like consoles for playin with mates, flightin games, racing games, sport etc. The pc is the master for FPS and RTS. :ar:

I agree jiffz, you cannot play fps on a console as good as the PC BUT, the graphics on BF2:MC are UNMATCHED on the xbox360 version. I was picking my jaw up after I played it for the first time, it is rediculous! I still don't believe this pricing, but all I know is that it is going to be extremely expensive

FPS on consoles is usually just not right except some circumstances, i.e. Halo. I kinda hated the x-box due to it being a pc with controllers, but could still appreciate a good game :)

The consoles these days are basically pc's anyway with their Hard Drives, Media interface etc. I am looking forward to seeing this PS3 in action and if it kicks ass then I may have to spend close to a months wages on one :p. A problem with consoles is the prices of the games, some are £50???

yep thats a shame... You pay at least 65 € for a new Xbox 360 Game ! The Same game (PC Version) costs about 48 €

That costs as much as my entire pc, including TFT monitor, did!

I'll probably get a second hand one a year before the PS4 comes out :P

Well apparently Sony has issued a correction and said that there was a misunderstanding. The French Sony director never said the PS will cost this price, but it got twisted in the translation...

From joystiq.com:

PS3 price point comments poorly translated

We were kind of expecting this to happen: Sony has stated that the comments made by Sony Computer Entertainment France boss Georges Fornay yesterday regarding the price of the PS3 were "not an indication of PS3 pricing" and were "mistranslated or misunderstood". He was in fact speculating that if the PS3 were to launch between €499 and €599 it would be considered cheap in comparison to dedicated Blu-Ray drives (which start at around €700) but that "current video games machines" (excluding the Xbox 360, natch) would still be significantly cheaper than the PS3.

But it certainly does not mean the PS3 will be cheap anyway hehehe...

playstations always launch with ridiculous price tags

if i get one ile just wait for the price to go down;)

To be honest i dont think the price is to bad, look how much a top of the range graphics card costs nowadays then you have got to pay for your whole pc on top.

no one can really compare the xbox360 to the PS3 untill it has been launched IMO. Sony is keeping really quiet, only they know the true specs and the performance. Nevertheless, it should be a great system, just like the xbox :)

Very good point you have there Hyper! My PC altogether probably costs around the same as PS3 and I wouldn't be suprised if gfx was about the same as PS3, maybe worse?? :(

With a console, you don't have to worry about what settings suit it, no driver issues, crashes and also, the games always get better as time goes on and there is no need to update anything. Try a 1st release PS2 game like 'Timesplitters' and put it next to 'Black' on PS2 - quite a difference. These are obviously all the advantages and PC has it's own too, but each are for different uses. If the PS3 gives results, has plently of functions and (probably the most likely setback) if I have enough spare cash I'll be buyin it :D

Not really. They've been $399 at intro price ever since the original PlayStation. That's not bad, I'm glad they're sticking to the price of the orig. :)

Holy crap, that's like AUS$1000. I will admit it looks sweet, but damn it had wanna be good. It seems that Sony is confident that they have a winning combination, I just hope that their gamble pays off.:)
