PS3 not showing up in Media Player over network

I am trying to stream content to my sons PS3 downstairs. I have both connected into the same router (Netgear 834) and a laptop which is wirelessly linked.

If I open Win MP11 and select share on the laptop, it finds the other PC and the PS3 (shows up as unknown) The PS3 registers the laptop as a media server and all works well.

If I try to do this from my main PC it does not find the PS3 and only sees the laptop.

I do not know WTF is happening, and I do not think the PS3 is talking directly to teh laptop (wirelessly)

Laptop is Vista , main PC is XP Pro.

I have been able to ping the PS3 with no problems and have checked the firewall and cannot see any problems.

Any ideas folks?

i found wmp to be very flakey.

There is tversity, which works very well and allows integration of youtube and streaming content. google for a guide on it too

or theres a java program called ps3 media server. Its ace, works out the box, has all codecs for streaming/transcoding on the fly.

So id say for a quick setup, ps3 media server :)

I dont think its the streaming thats the problem, its the lack of connectivity even though I can ping.

I will have a look at that proggy though.

PS3 Media is working like a dream :) Cheers Apoc. Now I just gotta figure out what the problem was with other stuff.

Nah, cant be bothered :) but it will bug me.

I just think is wmp. I tried using it and 40% of the time it would work. Others it didnt show at all

Yea ps3 media server is great for films etc.

There is a setting for multicore processors too

Yup.. WMP can be a pain I've heard. Not had issues with it myself but I use either TVersity as mentioned above or Vuze.
