Project : Build My PC

Hey there. I dont know whether this schould be posted in off topic or here but tomorrow i will probably start the project "Build my PC" and i wanted to introduce you to it a bit so you could have some suggestions.

The Project will be basicly just a normal website in PHP format (using MYSQL).

I will be there for users new to the "My Own build PC" world. It will ask the user several questions and then give out a fitting system for him. Obviously it will need an update almost every month to give out new info.

If you are interested in joining the project you schould be able to do one or more of the following :

Programmers and Designers :

PHP Programming

MYSQL Programming

GFX Designer (Photoshop, GIMP etc.)

Administrators :

Updating new prices (once a month)

writing configs for cases (Update once each 2-3 month's)

The only jobs that need programming skills are the programming jobs. As admins you would just see an admin page.

Thats basicly it. The page would have no certain community (maybe we could just directly connect it with SX ;) ) and no other stuff. It will just be a program helping newcomers.

Maybe you like it. If you do you schould realy consider to join it because it will be a lot work for one.

Sounds intriguing FFX... I'd be willing to collect new parts to the market w/ current prices for the database.

he thanks for the your help. I will start programming the whole thing today. Persons I would take as admins by the start of the finished versions are :

FragTek - > Price Watcher

NickS -> GFX'er

Ionicle -> Price watcher

Dave -> Config

EnVias -> Config

FalconFX -> Programmer, GFX'er, Config

teknobramha -> Programmer

I will change that if more ppl apply ;)
 
i would do some photoshopping for you - as long as you dont mind me using fireworks for some stuff.

wdnt mind doing the case thing but could you go into a bit more detail about what it is please.

The Case Thingi :

Case Administrators will have to do the dollowing stuff. There will be a page for them ro add different kinds of prepherials. Lets say the Geforce 8900 is realeased. Sure we dont have the 8xxx Series in the database yet. So now the Case admin goes to the Add Stuff Page and adds the card with the price to the database.

-> THis was one of the activities.

Another activity is to create systems for certain cases. a user answers questions. For each of those questions he gets certain Points which will eb added up and in the end he gets rediected to a page which shows him the components that would be best for him. So now here something comes what i am still not sure about because there are alot ways to do it. Either we could make a certain point range for certain systems (100 Points for a Ultra system and 10 for a 300 $ System) or we could justr create a Answer String way which would follow the answers back and then gets the user one of the configs you guys write.

I say write but thzat is wrong. The only stuff a Config admin has to do to "write" a config file is to select PC Parts and then give the system the RANK so it could fall under a certain case. You dont have to worry about all that. That will be the programmers job.
 
i will tell u what...i nominate myself for a completely new and novel position cos that sounds complicated.

i will have an email address (with ur domain) and people can ask me questins about anything to do with the comp or recommendations etc. ne technical questions i wil try to answer. how does that snd??
 
also just to mention a link to SX on the page somwhere lol, and what sites would i check for prices? any? or stuff like ebuyer, gladiators, overclockers, e.c.t
 
Prices will be taken from different sites because they vary from country to country. ATM You guys dont have to worry about anything. Only ppl that are joining the programming team have to do stuff.

Dave believe me when the program is finished i will show you how easy it is and you will say OMFG... and then you will run away.... lol ok cut that one out...

No for the config admins and all admins it will be just a veeeeery easy user interface. Wait with your decision till you see it ;)
 
welcome to the forum akio, ffx could you explain exactly about this project looks intresting could join but want to get better informed
 
you know for the price list you could just give 5 examples or so for each item, and then give a item is cheapest at so and so place, just liek kelkoo do. so, if you catch my drift, the customer could get a hdd from ebuyer, memory from crucial etc
 
Hey there finally i am back online after a week. I did alot work over that time. The program is now finished to almost 75 % ! (version 1.0).

I will keep you uptodate in my other thread.
