Coming very very soon!

very interested to see a build in the phantom. quick question, are you going to mod some plexi in place of the mesh on the side panel?

definitly excited to see this. other than the price and that side panel mesh i really like the new phantom. if i might ask, why the 3820 instead of a 3930k?

I'll have a ton of updates tonight :) Work and school have been pretty nuts this week, but there's been a LOT of progress on the build :)

Time for an update!

Unboxing late at night:

Now, it's time to remove the mesh and prepare for plexi windows. I need to remove the 200mm fan mount as well... so...

And it's time to start sleeving and cable management. I find it much easier to Cable manage from the beginning to avoid headaches down the road.

Some really cool gear came in. EK gives you a lot of nice stuff, like nice stop fittings for reservoirs and radiators, cable adapters for their pumps, different sized screws for radiators. The 7870 block also came with an adapter to mount fittings horizontally instead of vertically.... REALLY awesome that they include all that kind of stuff in their products.

Monsoon Rotary fittings. These things are awesome. Very well built and you can customize their look with colored "accent disks." As well, light port rotarty fittings are available if you want LEDs to color your clear tubing instead of using dyes.

The LED fittings come with a couple of different sleeved cables. I already have some though, as I'll be using amber/yellow LEDs in this build.

More to follow soon!

Thanks guys! :) Slight problem today, my skillsaw cracked the Plexi for the custom windows... twice. GRR! Gonna have to figure something else out.

Make sure you're turning off oscillation, I learned bout this today. Also, If your plexi is to thin then the jigsaw will not work well and will cause the breaking and cracking.

I'm just gonna go at it with a hacksaw. My jigsaw has no setting, it's just a cheap black and decker that oscilates. That may be part of the issue. Hacksaw will take much longer, but as long as the results are the same, I don't care. :)

I use a jigsaw with a fine scroll blade

And for the drilling the holes i have a secret weapon...

Edge_Ground_Wood_Working_Drill_Bits.jpg

If you notice the tip is not a typical HSS point, this is a wood bit, it cuts from the edge and pulls the waste to the center for removal.
It stop the bursting which causes cracking when you drill thru. Go slow with this bit and it will go thru like butter.

Fine teeth are the way forward when cutting plexi.

Yeah, I had a fine-toothed blade and everything. Took it nice and slow, but everytime CRACK! :( I'm just gonna do it by hand. Yeah, it'll take longer, but I don't care. I want it done and I want it to look clean. I'll use my dremel with a buffing pad to gloss up the edges before it's installed.

I have a custom Aquaero faceplate being made right now, so the 5.25 bays will be nice and clean with no mounting holes visible.
