Problems fitting a Corsair H105 AIO Watercooler

I have tried to fit a Corsair H105 AIO Watercooler to a Asus ROG Maximus VII Formula LGA 1150 Motherboard
My problem is when fitted the intel backplate with the LGA115X standoff screws, there was still movement (the standoff screws would not tighten further) by movement I mean I could move it around. Looking at the backplate it appears to me that the standoff retainers on the back plate are longer than the thickness of the motherboard it should tighten to.
Anything I doing wrong?

I've found that with a few motherboards, just make sure when you fit the cooler all of the thumbscrews are tightening the block against the CPU rather than bottoming out on the standoff's and it will be fine. I've had that happen on both a VII Gene and Hero but they did tighten up enough to get a good mount.

Should the assembly still be loose when fully assembled and tightened then some little plastic washers between the back-plate and the board would solve the problem, it's just down to variances in PCB thickness.
