Problem with 580- Please help!

I'm having problems with my MSI N580GTX Twin Frozr III Power Edition. It worked ok but I had accidentally been using it in an 8x slot on my MB (a Rampage IV Extreme) for a while so I decided to swap it up to the first 16x slot.
When I power up my computer I can get into windows as usually but the resolution won't go over 1280x1024 (leaving a big black border on my FullHD monitor) and the system won't see the graphics card (I get a couple of errors from my applications like fraps and msi afterburner about there not being a compatible graphics device). I checked in my bios and under one of the tabs it showed a Nvidia graphics card plugged in to the 16x slot.

I've checked to see if the power cables are tightly plugged in and the card itself as well. The fans on the card spin up as well as the led's behind them.

No idea why this would have happened through changing a slot, but have you tried completely uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them?

Does a program such as CPUID's HWMonitor detect the card?

Haven't tried uninstalling the drivers, where do I find them exactly?

And no, HWM doesn't detect it at all :(
The rest of the system is working perfectly, I'm posting this from the computer in question :S

Edit:
I first tried putting it in the lower 16x slot and that gave the same problems as the top 16x slot, but now I put it back in the 2nd slot which is an 8x slot that it was in before (it has worked in the 16x top slot before too) and the problems dissappear :S
So it doesn't seem to me that I somehow broke the card during the switch :) but I'd still like to have it in an 16x slot :/

Download that.
Then, go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers and uninstall them.

Reboot your computer and boot into safe mode (spam F8 to buggery).

Run the driversweeper tool, and ensure that all traces of the nVidia drivers have been removed.

Download and install these, the newest drivers: http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/win8-win7-winvista-64bit-306.97-whql-driver-uk.html

Tell me how it all goes :)

I will in the morning, thanks for the help :D Off to sleep now...

Problem solved now, I tried installing the new drivers with the card still in the 8x slot and that did no good at all, then I moved it over to the 16x slot and installed them again and now all works as it should :)
