Hi guys, I'm sharing a canon PIXMA IP4000 printer between two computers (one wired & one wireless) using a Linksys PSU4 print server (linksys wireless router & PCI card also). Both printers can print ok, so far anyway, however whenever you go to print the canon printer status monitor says the printer isn't responding despite it printing anyhow. This is slightly annoying as this status monitor tells you which ink catridges are running low and stuff like that. I have tried updating printer drivers but that makes no difference. Any ideas?

Cheers.

Ok I've heard from someone that print status cannot be monitored unless the printer is directly connected to the local pc - is this the case? Or have I just done something wrong in the setting up?

I believe the status is run on the pc acting as print server as an application, so I doubt that this will work when using a seperate print server.

However I may be wrong...

In my network I have an old pc with the printer attached to it, with all drivers + apps installed then when adding a printer to a networked pc it installs drivers from that pc.

Anywho trying not to steal thread here, but can I make the pc acting as print server automatically start up when I send something to print?

I dunno about canon though, but every networked printer should allow you to locally monitor it's status over the TCP/IP port. It should work just like a USB port.

I've never had a problem with Kyocera, HP, Epson and samsung in terms of printer monitering. Some even come with web pages that show you all the info.

Sorry i can't help with canon.

Right well apparently status monitors only work if the printer is directly connected or if the printer is bi-tronic. The print servers webpage doesn't show you any printer status apart from when its online or not which isn't all that helpful.

Thanks for the replies guys.
