I have been playing with Prime95 tonight to see what temps I get from my system

a problem that I have come across is that when my FSB get past 223 prime95 stops with a "Hardware error detected)

Any suggestion. Is this to do with my memory now.

If so how do I get it to 1:1

thanks

this is likely to be an A64 problem, phil has similiar issues when hitting 225FSB which is why he started playing arround with his P4 :P

a NForce 3 *shud* do the trick i think, tho what ram are you using anyway?

at least you know when to stop cos your rig isnt stable enough...

if its large ffts its testing then its prolly a board prob as well as memory prob...

if its small ffts its testing when it gave you the error then it should be cpu.

memtest will be able to tell you though if its ram related :)

is memtest that Dos bootdisk thingy? if it is then yeah its a sep program epic, and i can make no sense of it at all, i left it scnaning my ram for over 16 hours and it still wasnt finished :P

think i just did a search on google for "memtest" if it talks about being a bootdisk then u know its the right one

here's how to test your memory only, using memtest.Set the settings you want to test in bios. After booting to cd/floppy and the program is running, press, C,2,5,5,ENTER,ENTER.This will loop test5 (most memory intensive) continuously. If you get no errors after 25 passes, increase ram by 3/4 mhz until you start to get errors. When u start getting errors within 25 passes, back off by 3 mhz & retest.Once you think you've found your limit, loop test 5 for 200 passes, any errors-back off 1mhz,no errors-stick with it(or maybe squeeze 1 more mhz). Also its a good idea to boot to cd/floppy,and let it run normally(all tests) overnight.Generally errors in tests 1-4 are cpu related, test 5 errors are ram,& never seen an error in other test. You can trust the results from memtest, even though prime will run a few mhz higher for a couple of hours, the rig probably isn't totally stable.

OK.. Sorry but you will have to bare with me on this...

How to I get extra mhz???

theres also a win version of memtest...its supposed to be quite good for burning in as well...

memtest is great...it never ends..it just loops all the time etc.

i personally leave it running all the time...i aint selecting only one test cos i get errors in test 6 iirc.
