prime 95 stressing

I am currently on a prime stress test, one hour an ten minutes in. My question in how long should I run the test for, to determine a stable overclock for a gaming rig

i usually run 8 hours on Small FFT's, this will ensure the cpu is stable, then i run Blend test for 24 hours to ensure cpu and ram are stable being abused, once all these complete then you're good to go!

but some people say 4 hours or 6 hours some even do it for few days, depends if you wanna see how rock solid an overclock is!

Right ok thanks kambo. I think I will run the small fft for 6 hours, then run the blend test 24 hours seem a really long time for that haha.does it matter if I leave it running overnight, As in if it fails it wont break something while I am asleep will it?

Thanks again bud

nah it wont break anything, unless you blue screen it'll reset, and just be sitting at the desktop

you dont have to run it for 24 hours, but i like to make sure, sometimes i render videos nothing worse than a failed overclock rendered videos

Ah ok thats good to know. I dont render videos I just game on my rig, do you think maybe 8 or 12 hours would be sufficient for the blend test?

Ahh great stuff. games wont max my cpu like prime, but I am probably best doing a couple of hours run through on haven too as my gpu aint under water, an until I get my r9 290x its dissapating all the heat into the case

LOL I must be the laziest person alive... I do a 30 min small fft test to check temps, then do blend for 2/3 hours and call it stable :P

This is with all the video/audio production I do on my rig, alongside gaming... never failed me once :)

Maybe I've just been immensely lucky :P

With AMD chips, youre gonna want to use both Linpack (either Intel Burn Test or OCCT's linpack) and then either OCCT for 4-6 hours or Prime95 for 10-12 hours. Some chips that will sail thru Intel Burn Test will crash under OCCT. Youll want to make sure you can pass both types of stress testing to ensure youve got a stable overclock. Mine for example would pass 20 runs of Intel Burn Test at 4.8 GHz but wont do OCCT at anything other than 4.5.
