I've just got back into folding but i've noticed my PPD for my i7 920 is 1,706.8
Is this normal, it looks weird to me for some reason?
I would also fold on the 5870 but i like my rig quiet and the coil whine from the 5870 is like rats inside my rig
Grrr I was just finishing up typing a message and knocked the back button (stuipd place to have then Lenovo - by the cursor keys) so it got wiped. Hopfully I won't forget anything this time around.
The PPD is low so the firts qyestion to ask is, what client are you using and are you folding on uni core or SMP (multi core).
Second thing to ask is have you stopped and started the client while still it's still folding the same work unit.
Feel free to askas many questions you need more often than not someone here will know the answer.
P.S. Don't feel bad about not folding on your 5870. ATI/AMD cards are not the best to fold on. With the new V7 client they do ok but are still out paced by nVidias offering.
Some people go out and buy a cheap is nVidia card just to do some folding on.![]()
About the 5870. U can cap mod it so you don't get that noise + u will be able to oc it like it's meant to be!

If you have the time, tools and balls to do it![]()
i would do itbut i just can't as the 5870 im using belongs to a friend of mine, im just using it until i get my own GPU although he did say i can have it if i paid £80 but i think i'll get a new GPU, most likely one of the new Nvidia that are due this year, a 580 equivalent![]()
Im using the F@H CPU Tracker V2 and im folding on SMP.
I fold on my main rig as i do not have a dedicated rig to FAH, although i would love to have one but i don't pay the electricity bills so its a no for now. I have stopped and started the client while folding the same unit, do it nearly everyday as the rig is not on 24/7 so i switch it on in the morning and off in the evening before i go to bed.
What you are saying about Nvidia GPU is so true, i have seen many people snap up the cheaper cards like GTX 260's and even 8800GT's
I did use to have 8800GT's and they were awesome, i would try and find a pair if i can and fold on them![]()
My PPD is now 1668.4 Its gone down from 1706.8
Ok. The SMP work units have a base set of points and then you get a bonus depending on how quickly you complete the unit and get it sent back.
The breaks you take from folding obviously extend the time taken to sent the unit back and thats why you are seeing lower PPD and why it will continue to go down every time you stop and start again on the same unit.
Add to that that awful PPD we are getting from the current batch of work units and thats why yours is soo low.
The GPU work units don't have a quick return bonus so if you are stop-starting you would probably be better off folding on that.... if you can put up with the coil noise.
The other option might be to run multiple singe core units at the same time as they don't have a quick return bonus either.
13,986 looks much better now that i have started a new work unit
I'm still getting crap WUs. Currently folding a 7506 on my i7 getting about 7k PPD.
