Power Cable Delete Option Wanted

Now that we have cool toys like inductive charging cell phones, when are we going to see something similar with power supplies, to get rid of the cords.

The mobo just needs a conductive spot on the mobo tray with a trace to the power supply, and that can have a conductive notch to clip into. No more running wires the the mobo to power the PC. There could even be the magnetic clips like the Surface uses to power hard drives and other bits in the case.

Are any power supply manufactures working on anything like this? I don't want power cables in my PC.

I'd sooner just stream to a wireless powered monitor with some decent mirrorcast, really. It's a solution to a problem that won't exist when it is viable IMO.

The problem I see with that is the wattage that can be pushed through a small contact area. On a heavy overclock, you could end up spot welding your board to the case.

I can see this being a great idea for small form factor server or media PC builds though.

Agreed, a separate power brick and a board that distributes its own power around to different components.

Laptops already do it, and so do low cost desktops and all-in-one PCs.

But it will never ever work for enthusiast level systems due to the area needed in a connector to safely pass power through.
