The side panel of my rig is matt black powder coated and somehow has sustained a small scratch (which looks white)

.I know it's not a big deal, but it's got my attention big time.

This must happen to a lot of people, so, I was wondering if anyone whith paint experience know's of anyway to repair or at least mask this kind of damage.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

i dont think you can repair it by powdercoating because they normally strip the panels in acid, you could touch it up with some paint but i think it would stick out like a sore thumb, buy a new panel? or ask if the powdercoaters can get the same finish as the rest of the case

As already has been said, I don't think the powder coat can be repaired using powder coat as the whole panel would need re-doing. You could try touching it up with a permanent marker or similar but it may look like a repair if the colours didn't quite match, might be worth a try though if you could find a close match.

It might not be perfect but ive done this on an old OEM tower after i knocked the side panel over when i was de-dusting the internals outside one day.

Grab a black permanent marker and just do a run or 2 over the scratch, then with some nail varnish remover/rubbing alcohol/deodorant (i used deodorant but anything with an alcohol base will work) just put a bit on a rag and gently rub over the marker line a few times, it should remove the marker on the actual panel really easily but leave the marker covering the metal inside the scratch, took me a few tries to not clear off the marker that was in the scratch but it looked a ton better for the 5 mins it took including digging out a black marker.

If you still arent happy just put a bit more of your alcohol based item of choice on and give it a good rub down and it will all be gone back to how it was before you started.

Fingers crossed, will post how it turns out tomorrow .

Once again a big thank you

I know it's a little off topic, but I don't want to make a whole new thread.

How much should powder coating cost?

Thinking mostly when you do all the internal parts of the case.

ive used coaters and they all range depending on how busy they are.

busy is either they are good or too cheap. i usually hand them an

un-necessary part and get a quote, then rate their performance after

they are done. usually something close to what you are wanting done.

dont use the good pieces until you are satisified on the job performance.

im gunna do my own, find and old kitchen oven, buy the setup,

and paint away. itll only do 11" x 20" parts.
