possible connection dropping solution

well i think i have found a way to keep your net connection from dropping

you haveto keep your connection busy it seems,in my case i just stream a radio station all the time and that does the trick

i have been connected for 1day 11 hours and 10mins so far:)

i would like to know if this works for other people so post your results;)

if you have limited usage set by your isp do not do this!(unless its something like 30gb etc)

cheers.

i dont have any bandwidth limits:p

plus i am always streaming the station to listen to anyway:)

good idea tho,i never thought of that.

can you set it to ping at certain intervals then?,say every hour or so?

and how would you go about setting it up?

i think i still remember how to send a ping but thats about it lol

woot just broke 300 posts:D

cheers.

You must be talking dial-up. I seem to remember way back in the days before 'always on' broadband connections my DUN used to auto-disconnect after 2 hours (set by ISP) unless connection was in use.

I used to get round this by getting my e-mail client to auto-schedule a check for incoming mail every 1 hr 59 min.

some broadbanscompanies "disconnects" users when inactive.

mine used to do that after 15mins of inactivity but used a small program that autologged in every 5min.

i didnt get disconnected as such but i got logged out which basicly become the same thing in the end.

but now they have changed system and im connected aslong as my modem is on, no login or password is needed anymore.

i have 2mb broadband and as raven said about some isp's disconnect after a certain time of connection inactivity, which i think tiscali does:nono: lol

cheers.

Fair enough.

Although I've been with four different b'band ISPs and never seen that before. Ah well.

Another thought, although you've probably already covered it, do you have your router (or modem) connection set to 'always on' as opposed to 'connect on demand/idle timeout'?

it is annoying to say atleast but there is several programs out there that prevents the connection to drop from inactivity.

atleast used to be one in norton systemworks.

btw kazaa was considered inactivity too.

to save on bandwidth mate, why not just do a:

ping -t www.google.com

at the command prompt. And maybe put it in your startup folder too.

What if they ban his IP or google gets ****ed, ROFL.
