Popped the IHS on my Opty 180... Results are great!

Yup tonigt I just said fuck it and decided it was time to make my lil chippy butt naked.

After strippin' her down my load temp dropped about 12*c and allowed me to take her all the way up to 2.9 stable! Been priming for an hour or so now and runnin' like a champ at 2.9ghz. Note that in the screeny that prime had only been running for about 30 mins thus far, but still running now :)

This looks like it's the perfect candidate for my phase rig, can't wait to test it!!!

Yeh, this is an excellent mod, first did this with a P4 2.0B a couple of years ago and the guys on OcUK have been doing this to A64s recently. I'll stress, as I have done before the importance of being careful when removing the ihs, as the cache chips are easy to damage, and a very expensive mistake judging by the fact that you've just voided your warranty. Also its recommended that a razor is used as it is thinner and sharper than other blades, which may not fit in the gap. (Although a stanley seems to do the job fine).
 
Yup this will be the 4th chip that I've skinned to see a decent lil bump in performance. Now bring on the subzero temps!
