PMSL!! Freezer cooled computer @ XS = LAWL

I literally almost peed my pants when I saw this... hahahaha This had been posted in a thread for subzero aircooling (ie. putting ur computer next to an open window during the middle of winter in Russia). Note the masking tape holding the hard drive to the refridgerator door. I don't think anyone informed him that masking tape is a low-tack tape made to release, bet he was mad as hell when the hard drive cratered to the floor.

Go look now, and don't pee urself!!

That is AWESOME !

Do I read that monitor correctly ? 2° cpu 10° system ?

I gotta keep the 2nd hand fridge/freezer option in my mind.

LMAO u can imagine his mrs/mom standing behind him whilst he takes the photo - pan to the right and there`s a kitchen table covered in defrozred steaks, ice-cream, misc salad, `n shizzle, some dripping on the floor.

Just rofl, I can see it now. I do wonder about the eggs on top though, who freezes eggs?? Shouldn't they be in the fridge, lol.

but hang on, wuddnt all his components inside the freezer get frost all over them??

And then they wud

After a while yes, especially keeping the door cracked open like that. But this is only a short-term benchmarking setup. Technically if the door were sealed and not a lot of air were inside the freezer you would only see a bit of frost as the ambient temperature is so low, no room for condensation and refreezing.

ah right, i was tempated to try and making a cooling system using a mini frigde... but i wasnt sure how to do it :P

The best way to do it, if ur gonna do it, is to turn it in to a water chiller. Just stick a cooler of water in the mini-fridge, drill two large holes on the side for your tubing, and then seal around the tubing with some silicon. Instant water chiller :)

Yup, thats what i was thinking of, but i dont have watercooling (yet) so its kinda pointless :D

When i do, i will make it, My first project :D

Sorry to say this, but trying to use a fridge to cool stuff for any significant time will be fruitless. The best way imo is a chilled water, add salt and cool it down in the freezer, and then have some sort of heat exchanger. Just my two cents.

I want to cool my loop - are there any actual products available? I was thinking that cooling the res would be the easiest option, although I havent figured out how. I don't want any nasty ghetto mods though I just think a chilled w/c kit would be sweet!

Yup its called a Chiller, you can get either Pelt / Tec based units that do it or use a modified phase change unit - neither way is very cheap

My hope was to get a 2nd hand fridge, with a freezer section. Attach 2 pipe grommets to the left and the right, attach some case fans to the in/out and run something akin to a vacuum cleaner type hose off them. Set the freezer section to it`s lowest setting, so as it`s not running at full pelt - or rather it will run at full pelt, but not trying to be at it`s coldest. Theory being, it`ll work hard on the lowest setting equiv. to being on the highest.

Need to do some kind of tubing thing to eliminate any h20 from coming out of the end, like a fermenting thingy.

Coolness wize, it would help the temp of the room, that is ~30 all year round, and run a tube into the case at the bottom (checking for the fluid), as the overall case temp is a product of a number of things including the temp of the air that gets drawn into it.

Run the freakin thing until it pops !

Say what! Got any linkage to what you speak of? Cheers

A few easy ways to sum this up...

1) It doesn't work, and has been proven time and time again not to with anything more than a tiny wittle bit of load

2) Your food doesnt give off heat

3) Solid state chillers (tec/peltier) require specific designing and planning, not sticking a peltier on a radiator or something

4) Phase chillers are the best, especially if you find someone willing to do it on the cheap and still have it look good.

Ha chillers like that are either too high on power consumption, or not made for extremists. Thats more for cooling multiple setups or servers.
