Hi,

I have been haing soem trouble with my pc occasionally freezing no bue screen or anythiong just whatever was showing freezes!?, it has been going on for a few months now, basicaly it appears to freeze if left idle or doing thngs such as surfing the net, it hasn't happened to me on games or more high power tasks.

Can happen three times a day or once a week.

I have tried changing the RAM this made no difference, overclock settings reset so settings are now stock this also makes no difference so not an overclock issue, have latest drivers and BIOS, and have had the same problem with windows 7 and vista (multiple re-installs) so not an O.S problem it would seem.

Please Help...Specs are below except system is stock.

(p.s no crazy overclocking done no excessive heat or temp problems that I know of)

Go back to stock and see if it still happens.

What error codes does the bios give - these are really good to have.

Ok replaced RAM and made no difference (OCZ Ram Tried) so unlikely RAM fault

No Bluescreen just a freeze screen stays frozen GPU @ aprox 58c Idle

I have experienced the same but only due to overclocking instability. You say you are back at stock and having the same problem so that would rule that out (unless you have caused damage or corruption to something). The only thing you haven't mentioned really is the HDD - how is that performing?

The only thing I can come up with at the moment is that the CPU could be damaged by the 1.4vCore I remember you putting through it. The 1366 platform is known for its sensitivity to voltages and maybe the CPU isn't an exception.

Thought had occured to me to be honest but many have runned over 1.45 with no troubles, maybe I have just been unlucky....want to rule everything out before I buy a new CPU.

HDD also seem to be fine but how would I know?

Have noticed a new BIOS revision on ASUS installed this last night along with the latest forceware drivers maybe it'll help.

If is freezes, do you still year any kind of reaction from the rig itself like harddisk activity if you press something like ctrl alt del? It could be the graphics cards completely freezing.

Or of course put another graphics cards in there if you have one :p

EDIT: if left idling... Could take a look at the power saving settings of Vista and set everything to maximum performance. It's a long shot, but try everything.

Nothing seems to happen although you do ocasionally hear a quick flutter of HDD activity and then nothing, all power settings such as hibernate/standby etc are disabled only the screen is set to turn off after 30 mins or so......this freeze can also happen whilst your browsing the net so nothing to do with the screen power save setting I think.

It appears not to un-freeze.

U will get a system freeze if the harddrive throws a paddy whilst ur doing stuff. Particularly if it's the only drive and/or the OS one. Other than OS ones, ones the OS might have a cache on it for something.

Definitely look at either the power source conditions or simply try another way of arranging ur power connectors.

May not just be volts, could be amps. 25w a throw during a write cycle some drives, a burst of more during a power-up.

currently have the two velociraptors on the same power line, so maybe if I power one on an alternate power line may help....sounds like a good suggestion Rastalovich will give it a go, and post back.

Spoke to soon just froze up again screen was in standby went to wake pc up (not standby, hibernate) and nothing my G19 display was also frozen screen remained blank!!!

:(

Please Help This is Driving me Crazy :(

Why is the screen going into hybernate mode? :/ Seems that there is a problem with the GPU and you should defo rule it out. Ok - are the latest drivers for your GPU installed? How does the GPU get its power? I.e. are there 2 power ports on it and you only have one plugged in? The 4890 has 2 for example and i tried with one and the system froze. Upon reboot i got a message saying plug the other power cable in but your system may behave differently.

Ok,

I'm now leaning towards this being a possible CPU issue...OCUK Seem to be doing a good deal on the newer i7 920 D0 CPU's

Are there any other things I can try...before I dump £210 on a CPU does anyone here think its not likely to be a CPU problem?

As a last ditch try from me can i ask what resolutions you're monitor supports and if you're not trying to pump too much through it and if you have tried another monitor. Be ashame if its the CPU so lets try everything...although what a cool excuse to upgrade :P
